LONG VENT!!!

LONG VENT!!!

I am so annoyed with my FH's aunt!! Last Spring, we asked her granddaugther, my FH's cousin's daughter, to be flower girl. Shortly after this, she had the nerve to began asking whether one of her grandsons, my FH's other cousin's son, could be a second ring bearer so that it would be equal. I only want one ring bearer, and that's my nephew. At first, my two nephews and the flower girl were going to be the only kids at the wedding. FH and I both have a few cousins with kids, and we didn't want a whole bunch of kids running around the wedding, which ends at midnight. However, since we are trying to keep things peaceful with his aunt, we (both sets of parents, FH and myself) decided to at least invite her 5 year old grandson as well as my cousin's older kids, who are 9 and 11. We agreed that there would be no children under 5 invited to the wedding. We made this decision sometime over the summer. That apparently isn't good enough, because she continuously makes comments about the younger grandchildren, who will be 2 and 3 at the time of the wedding, not being invited. Every time we see her she makes a comment, and every time she sees my FH's family she complains to them about it! When we were at her house for Thanksgiving, she actually had the nerve to say to the 2-year-old, 'Raquel, tell Jackie and Brad to let you come to their wedding.' She said this loud enough for only me and Brad to hear it. I ignored her, although I really want to open up my mouth and tell her that I'm beginning to be sorry I'm inviting any of her grandchildren in the first place! The problem is that no one in FH's family will open up their mouth to her! She is pretty much the matricarch of that side of the family and is very much used to having things her way. I feel that FMIL, her younger sister should tell her once and for all to shut up about it, but that isn't happening. My FH tells me to just let her say what she wants and ignore her, but I'm finding it harder and harder. Now she's implying that FH's cousins may not come if both their children aren't invited! I'm just so frustrated because it comes up over and over again, and I hate that it's causing tension. At the same time, I see no need to have the really small children at a nighttime formal wedding and I'm not willing to make any more concessions for her!!! Thanks for listening.

Re: LONG VENT!!!

you need to stand your ground! and tell her your self if no one else will! i know the feeling about kids being at the wedding i have 7 that are just in the wedding party(all neices and nephews) i wanted only the fg and rb but when my sister who has 3 kids said yes to all of them bein in the party i had to have all of them, i was banking on her saying no, but that did not happen. but also all the kids are 6 to 10 and also my daughter who is 9. so they are older. so i think you so just tell her no one under 5 and that's that, and if the cuzes won't come because of that , is that what she said or they actually said it. talk to the cuzes about it too and see what happens from there! i am here if you need to talk!

Re: LONG VENT!!!

Ask her if she is going to take the 2 & 3 year olds home at 9, when everyone else is eating & they start crying because they are overtired.

(ok, that was a little mean, but i'm grumpy when I'm tired, and its not my family so its easy for me to say- in reality I'd let said aunt walk all over me )

I'm inviting my uncle with his 3 kids, they will be 12, 8 & 2. I can't see his wife wanting to bring the 2 year old, but I didn't want to leave him out b/c he is a 1st cousin, and they'd all be coming up from Atlanta & I want them to be able to do whatever is easiest for them.
I'm kinda curious how they'll work it.
