Can someone provide some feedback on the Longwood school district. It is around the Coram and Middle Island neighborhoods. Thanks.

Re: Longwood School District
From what I hear, it is not a good school district at all. That is usually why the houses with that school district are less expensive then the houses that are in the other school district

From what I know, it is certainly not a great district. I think you'd be 'OK' with elementary school there, but I would never send my children beyond that. With that being said, all neighborhoods have their good and bad areas. Personally, I would not live in the district

I wouldnt go as far as saying it is a bad district. It certainly is not the best, but it is NOT BAD. There are a lot of beautiful areas, and new developments going up. There are some parts of Coram (Gordon Heights ) which is not so nice. But every town has its nice areas and bad areas.

I agree. I live in Middle Island on the border of Ridge in a BEAUTIFUL development. All of my neighbors are young professionals and the area is nice. Here is a picture of it. Unfortunately we have high taxes...($9000) but as far as the school goes according to my neighbors it is really up and coming. Besides I hate to say this, but it gets poor views because of it's ethnic diversity from the Gordon Heights area (which is VERY far from my house). I have a friend who's son goes to the high school and loves it. I've only driven by it, but it looks like a college campus!
PS. I feel very lucky to have such a great home on Long Island. Actually that I have a home at all...
Stepher....your house is BEAUTIFUL. I live in Coram, and yes it does get a bad rap. The programs are great. But if you go to any high school in this time, things have CHANGED. Kids just dont have respect for their teachers the way we did growing up. I think it is in the water or something, but it is like this ALL OVER!!!!

We are in the process of purchasing a condo in Coram.
Longwood is not one of the best school districts but it is far from the worst. With all the new people moving out into the area and all the new developments sprouting up who knows what the schools will be like in 5 - 10 years.
I'm also hoping they rezone Sachem school district since they just plopped that HUGE highschool right inbetween Coram and Medford.

I actually teach at an elementary school in the district, and grew up in the district, attended Longwood HS and still live in the district....i think it's great and would have no problem sending a child of mine there. It's so stereotyped.
