Our maitre 'd sat us down at the end of the CH, put smocks (aka schmatas) on us and fed us a feast of CH food while our guests were being escorted to their table in the ballroom. Marnie and I were married at the same place and both got pictures!

They put them on for only one reason: so that we can eat to our heart's content and not worry about messing up our clothing. No other significance. It's just something that our hall likes to do. I knew ahead of time that they were going to do this. So, I could enjoy the cocktail hour and not worry about getting something to eat when I wanted to greet my guests.
The only problem is that I was so full, and about 15 minutes later I was being lifted up in the chair for the hora. I get motion sickness and I was scared of losing my dinner!
I still think this was a great way for us to be fed.
