looking at reception halls for the first time

Hi girkls,
I am looking at reception halls for the first time next weekend. I know the basic things to ask for/look for but would love any advice. Is there anything you wished you asked or known? Anything that's more important than anything else? I have no idea what to expect. Thanks!!

have fun! besides the basics, i dont know if youre having children at your wedding or not, but if you are you should find out if theyre priced at a discount. i know theres an old thread on here that has a list of SOOO many questions to ask. maybe you can do a search for it and see if you can find it. it was really helpful to me.

I found that old thread for you. I haven't looked at halls yet, but this list seems like it would be really helpful! Questions to Ask RH
Have fun!!

Just have a good time. When you see one you love, you'll forget your neurotic questions and just fall in love! Good luck!

Thanks everyone! And does anyone know how to handle deposits when we see the place we love? Can I write a check or does it need to go on credit cards?

usually either is fine for the deposit.....if you have a credit card that gets you miles or points you can use that to get your points thats what we did.....all payments afterwards must be check or money order.......i would bring a check with you just in case! and always always always haggle!!! lie to them tell them other places gave you a similar price is there anything that they can add to the package like linens or wine on the table.....we got our chair covers and a bottle of red & white wine on the tables included. The worst they can say is no!

I had to use a check for my deposit. I wish i could have used my CC!!!! Oh well.

Def have a lot of fun looking, and you will know when you find the one. I definitely reccomend trying to get extra stuff thrown in some how, whether it be saying you were offered it someplace else, etc. I reccommend not looking at too many places. I looked at 11 and i was definitely burnt out and it was not necessary. Decide before you go if you think you want garden, water, close to hotel, etc, that way you can rule places out before you even look.
