Looking for a good dog to adopt

Looking for a good dog to adopt

We thought we had found our perfect match for a dog but we went to meet her today and I cannot begin to tell you how MEAN this dog was. So, sadly, we're starting again.

FH and I would like a young (2-5 year old) small-ish to medium sized nice dog that's already house-trained. We loved the Lhasa Apso that we found and sadly returned to her owner so that's a possibility. We also love French bulldogs (yeah, right - good luck to us finding one of those to adopt that has all four legs!) and I personally LOVE pugs. FH is not sold on them but would at least meet one.

So, does anyone know of a dog that fits that description or maybe a shelter with a website where they list their animals so we can keep an eye out? We know about petfinder and nycacc.org as well as nsal.org. Anything else?

Will do - I figured I could count on you Regi . We're going to go to the Brooklyn shelter maybe this weekend to take a look at what they have. This one is the funniest dog I have EVER seen - I'd love to have her!

(By the way - I'll definitely let people know about your shelter. Unfortunately we can't have a cat because FH is extremely allergic.)

I have a pug & they are great, but a lot of work. They are generally not that easy to train (especially the males) and are very possisive...not just of your attention, but of things in the house...like the bed, the chair, the TV....

Try the NYC ASPCA...they usually have great dogs to adopt & even have pure breds from time to time. (they usually do not have papers, but I have 2 rescue dogs & they make the best pets)!

I second the Petfinder idea. I found my little monster through Petfinder. You can search by breed (or dominant breed) and by location.

Also, if there are particular breeds you like, do a Yahoo search for breed rescue groups!

Good luck!

Thanks you guys! I think we're going to take a ride to the Brooklyn shelter this weekend - that's where that furball and another adorable Lhasa are.

Or this one--so cute!

I know, we really loved her based on the description but she's got some eye thing that she needs a $1000 surgery for and we just can't afford that right now with all the wedding expenses, etc. She's adorable though, isn't she??

I want Lovett! My little monster wouldn't allow another dog in the house, though... she's a bit territorial!

OMG Lovett looks like a rag doll - she's so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, there was a big 'No Kids!' in her profile and, although we don't have them now, at some point we hope to so that wouldn't work .

diamondgirlie - I know, it's addicting right? Second to this site, I'm on petfinder the most!

Oh I didnt see that no kids part. I always look for the no kids symbol and dont read.

I am always going back and forth between LIW and petfinder.
