Looking for a hall....only want a cocktail party recep.

This is what I am feeling like right now! I am on a mission and yet so simple seems impossible. 'PARTY, PARTY, PARTY' is al I want for the entire 5 hours. No questions of 'chicken or fish, etc' going around. My family is party hardy (and so is his). I am on Long Island and most of his family....Brooklyn; Bronx; Queens.
I want a DJ that knows how to 'keep-em stepping' to the beats from the late 70's and 80's (with a little 50 cents for my daughter)

I don't want to turn the purse upside down to catch the coins and lent to pay for such a simple affair.

This gal just wants to have fun and enjoy the party to honor her being a .

Any suggestions; references; past experiences......help!!!

Thanks for sharing.

I'm not sure a hall would be willing to do that. Perhaps your better of with booking a catering room at one of your favorite resturants, and this way, you can maybe have servers and a buffet style dinner. Thats just an idea. Halls look forward to the cash, because they require a minimum amount of hours, and people. I'm not going to lie to you, but it gets costly, and reading your post, it seems as if you want to save on the cash. Look around, I'm sure you'll find something that works for you!!

Thanks for responding. I was checking out the Freeport Yaht Club. My family caters but I really don't want them to cook and be involved....just have a good time.

that is what we had for our engagement party--- had it at lido golf club- they really cut us a great deal and were willing to work with us on what we wanted.

good luck!

I know someone who had a cocktail reception at the Riverview in Oakdale and I heard it was great. They also had an afterparty at someone in the family's house. I went to a wedding at the Riverview once and it was so nice. Look at the Lessing's website.

Being that your getting married in May, theres a place my brothers boss owns, called Montego Bay, in Island Park. They also have steel drum calypso bands every Sunday, and their kick a$$. Not sure what your looking for as far as music, but we booked Vinny from High Voltage, and you DEFINATELY don't have to worry about the money factor! He'll keep you on your feet all night long

I think you should also look into the 'mansion-style' wedding. It is what you want- a constant cocktail party. I know the DeSeversky at NYIT does this type of event.
