I've been working in marketing for 4 years now and desperately want to get out. Up until recently, I never really knew exactly what I want to do; I've just been working to get a paycheck.
During the last 9 months of my wedding planning, I've come to realize that I would love to work in the wedding industry. To have a career in something that actually interests me, something that I am passionate about, something that would result in making brides and grooms as happy as I feel right now, would be a dream come true.
To what capacity, I am not sure of. Something that would require me to use my creativity, my client/customer service experience, and my knowledge of all things wedding related. I guess the reason for my post is to see if anyone knows of any job openings on Long Island, or how I might go about finding openings. There aren?t any wedding industry positions on Monster, and I don't know of any head hunters who specialize in this sort of thing.
I hope I don't sound too silly or that my dream is wishful thinking. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could contact some of your vendors and ask what kind of qualifications you would need to enter that field.

I've been thinking the same thing. I've been in marketing for 6 years.

Why don't you post this to the Vendor boards? Maybe some of them are hiring!

Re: Looking for a job in the wedding industry
Have you thought about event planning (more general than wedding planning)? After watching the Bridezilla series, I know I would never want to deal with psycho brides! But I did work in event planning in the White House and then later for a Wall Street firm. It was very similar, minus the bride...

I thought about that but didn't know if it was appropriate. Maybe I will, thanks.

Re: Looking for a job in the wedding industry
I thought about the samething also. I was told by the wedding coordinater at my reception hall that alot of girls start off working at Kleinfields or a bridal shop, but I don't know if that is the best route to take. She also said taking one of those online coarses in wedding planning is really not needed and is pretty useless. She started waiting tables at my reception hall then moved on to Maitre d. Now she is the wedding coordinater for my reception hall.
