If you are looking for a Catholic Priest to do your wedding, they will not go to a venue. The sacrament of marriage has to be done in the church. There are some 'priests' who will come to venues but the Catholic Church will not recognize it. If you want to get married by a Priest then it has to be done in the Church for it to be legit.

Yep. The only way a Roman Catholic Priest or Deacon will come to a venue is if you're having an interfaith marriage, but you'll still have to do Pre-cana and meet with the Priest at the church to fill out forms.

This is not true. My cousin got married at Ariana Waterfall in December 2011 by a catholic priest. It is not easy to find one who will do it but they are out there. I will find out from her who she used if you want.

Oh wow...I'm curious who she used. My parish Pastor at the time I did my paperwork was a Bishop and he said that interfaith marriages were the only exceptions allowed.

My parish said absolutely not.

The ceremonies performed outside the church are not the celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage. 'Sacraments' can only happen in the church. You may find a priest willing to bless the union in a ceremony that looks similar to what happens in the church, but that's different from the Sacrament. Some people are okay with that, and I think if you do a search on these boards you can find some names.

Our best mans brother is a priest and he said NO WAY should a priest marry outside the church other then interfaith marriages. Be careful there are a few men using the title of priest to marry people and it is not legit. do a search on here and you can find the posts.

I was told this too. This is correct.

I know this sounds terrible, but I really just need a priest for my some of my family members, I understand if it isnt a true sacrament and just a blessing.
one other thing to think about, if the wedding is not reconized by the church, what happens with communions / confirmations of your children?

I had this issue bc my FH was married in a Catholic Church before and divorced which is not allowed in the Catholic faith. I have a family friend that is a Deacon and he said he was only allowed to perform marriages in the church, so we will have a Catholic Ceremony at the hall. Some things in life, we just have to deal with. At the end of the day they are simply a witness to the vow of marriage between you and FH : )

Dawnbon, The children are treated separately from the parents in the church and are fully entitled to and embraced for all their sacraments.

not true in all churchs - because my 1st husband and I were not married in the catholic church our son could not be christened in the catholic church. We were told since we were not married in the church in the eyes of god our son did not exist!!!!! We went to the methodist church who gladly said yes with no problem.

I have never heard of that before!!! Too late now, but I would have gone to another Catholic Church. That parish must have been real 'fire and brimstone.' Was it on LI?

Unfortunately, this happened to friends of mine. They weren't married in the church and they had a hard time baptizing their daughter. Terrible!
