Looking for ideas...

Looking for ideas...

What was different or will be different about your wedding from most other peoples?

I know for my out of state family and friends the whole wedding will be different from what they are used to, but for FH's family Im afraid it will be just another Long Island wedding. What did some of you do to make yours stand out?

Hmmm...different...

We're doing a sand ceremony, hand ceremony and an engagement ring thing during the ceremony... We're doing our ceremony facing our guests - so they aren't staring at our butts the whole time.

Not walking down the aisle to here comes the bride..

We're doing ALL our pics beforehand so we can join everyone at the cocktail hour.

What else...i'm thinkin...

How about non-traditional music for the processional and recessional? My best friend did this and used all Beatles songs and everyone commented on how special and personal it made the ceremony!

My very best friends' father is walking my mom down the aisle..though I still have to tell him/ask him that :)

I really can't think of what else!!

Re: Looking for ideas...

we are taking all of our pics before the ceremony which i was totally against but i think it will be nice that we can enjoy the CH with our guests.....it should be nice since i've never actually seen a B&G at their CH.....

and we are getting married around Christmas time which is a little different - not that many people do it so there will be a little bit of a Christmas theme going on......

beside that nothing different yet but I cant wait to hear some ideas because I want our wedding to be different as well! not just another NY wedding like you said!

Re: Looking for ideas...

ok there is this awesome awesome idea that i found on another site - its a tradition from Holland:

You and your FH each write letters to one another about each other and why you love them, etc. - and you seal it in an envelope. You take that, two wine glasses and a bottle of wine and whatever else (fave music, pictures, etc) and put it in a crate, chest, box. At the ceremony the officiant says this speil about how they asked you to do this and you nail it shut (we are just locking it with a key). Its not to be opened unless you reach a hard time in your marriage at which point you drink the bottle of wine and go into separate rooms and read each other's letters. Hopefully you never have to open it - otherwise you can open it on your 10th, 20th anniversary....

I think its an awesome romantic idea....

Re: Looking for ideas...

We are doing a bunch of little things different - just because that's what we wanted, not to be different necessarily ...

1 - small ceremony, only immediate family (sisters, bros, parents, grandparents, immed aunts and uncles) and very closest friends - only about 1/3 of the wedding will be there. FH is deathly afraid of standing in front of 150 people - 50 may make him faint, he says. :)

2 - most of the weddings i've been to have a DJ, we will have a band, and this band will play lots of classic rock and some jam band music too! FUN!

3 - no garter or bouquet toss

4 - small wedding party (MOH and best man only)

5 - day wedding - most of the weddings in my family have been evening

6 - after party! because it ends at 6:30 we hope most people will join us at a local bar for a drink.

7 - no favors - in my opinion, no one wants / uses them anyhow - we are making a donation to a dog rescue group instead and putting notices on each table.

I am totally going to try to do the indoor snow thing for the reception.

Other ideas include:

Doing sparklers as we leave the ceremony (since it will be dark outside)

photobooth for guestbook

having playing cards & poker chips on the tables during cocktail hour.

no bouquet or garter toss

I love the sparkler idea!!!!

We decided to put our wedding bands on the stems of those small pumpkins(gourds) instead of using pillows(autumn wedding).

Re: Looking for ideas...

Some stuff we've got going on... Sand ceremony, I'm having a dance with my dad and another with my mom, too, No garter or bouquet toss - an anniversary dance instead where I will dedicate my bouquet to the couple married the longest, We are having one of FH's GMs sing and play guitar for our cake-cutting song, Disposible Camera Scavenger hunt lists for each table, We're writing a poem of 'thanks' to read to all our guests during the reception... uh, all the men in FH's fam have this insanely embarassing rendition of shout that they must run around to (cannot call it dancing, it's craziness!), We have personalized bottles of olive oil as a favor, Candy Buffet during dessert, One of my BM's is an artist and she's making our table #'s like different cartoons of us with our doggie, I made all the placecards with card stock and cool stamps I picked up at ACMoore, Autograph Mat Board with picture instead of a guest book, Birdcage I made instead of a cardbox, I think maybe that's most of it.... lol

We had a Snowflake theme going.....if Only the Weather would have given me some. It would have been perfect.

Re: Looking for ideas...

Halloween wedding...we are doing a masquerade theme so we will have those Venetian Masks and the kids can come in costume if they want.

No garter toss or Bo-K toss.... no cheesy music like the electric slide and stuff like that and I think we are going to take pics before we say our vows.

Re: Looking for ideas...

Hmm...here's what I'm thinking so far... and MANY of these ideas are thanks to LI Weddings!!!!

I'm sewing a blue ribbon into the inside of my dress that has my MOH and BMs' names on it. It will be my 'something blue' and it is supposed to signify a wish for a life of love and happiness for your girls.

During the ceremony, our priest will read letters (or parts of letters) that we wrote to each other about a month before the ceremony to make it more personal.

We will have the traditional readers, but we will also have the person who introduced us speak about our meeting and the beginning of our relationship (including that thru my adolesence I had a girlish crush on FH, who was older than me - hehe).

We will be in the limo with our BP from the church to the hall. I really wanted to have a great time with them and not go alone!

We will be at our cocktail hour.

For favors, I'm hoping and praying to get these individuals coffee cakes for each guest to have for breakfast the following day - I took this from my favorite restaurant in Manhattan - Gramercy Tavern.

Our wedding song is not at all traditional (Smashing Pumpkins).

If I can think of others, I will add them later!

Re: Looking for ideas...

Photobooth? I would love to do that as my guest book. How could I find something like that?

I'm also looking for some ways to make our wedding unique... All of these ideas are great!
