Can anyone recommend any areas that would still be convenient to commute to NYC? (hour to an hour and a half max)

Re: Looking to buy condo in NJ or CT
Danbury has some really nice condos - I lived in one near Candlewood Lake until I was 6. It's on the outer edge or where you're looking in terms of commute, but by train it's nothing (ESPECIALLY if you leave from Brewster, NY).
The school system in Danbury is also pretty good. Of course, there's also Ridgefield and Bethel.
I'll stop blathering - if you're interested in Metro Danbury, I'm your woman.

in CT, Stamford would be an ideal place for a condo because it's about half an hour or less on the train to grand central. it's also expensive though. you can also try Norwalk which is 10 minutes further from the city than Stamford. Both are really convenient, Stamford has tons of trains to the city and they're express so no stops.

We bought a townhouse in NJ in Union. We drive to the train (about 10 minutes) and the train takes about 30 minutes into Penn. It's a great commute. FM if you want more info!
Any areas you would stay away from? You can FM if you'd like

Re: Looking to buy condo in NJ or CT
there are a ton of towns within a 30 minute commute to NY in NJ. my brother & his girlfriend just bought a condo in hackensack. i love summit- great town & short commute. hoboken is very popular, but a bit pricey for condos. try this website. you can see all the listings for condos in each of the counties. they have the listing agent to contact as well. garden state multiple listing service website
you probably want to look at the bus schedules or train lines to see what towns are convenient for commuting.
bridgeport is further than 30 mins...but I still would say stay away

Re: Looking to buy condo in NJ or CT
I bought a condo in NJ in East Rutherford. About 15 minute train ride...but only goes to Hoboken...you would then have to take the path. Or...you could take the bus. Or...you could go to the new train station in Secaucus which goes to Penn Station direct. I work in NJ at the moment...so the train was not an issue for me. FM if you want more details...I also have a great real estate agent if your interested.
