Looking to buy in NJ

Looking to buy in NJ

Hello

My Fh and I are looking to purchase a home in Morris, Somerset, and Monmouth counties. We prefer a neighborhood with better than average schools, low crime, relatively low taxes (4 or 5K). Could you please suggest some towns in these counties for us to look in.

We are getting so frustrated with this whole process.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking to buy in NJ

Hi Kriss

My DH and I are in the process of buying in Dunellen, NJ which is in Middlesex Cty - just over the border of Somerset. The yearly taxes are about $5k and it is a great little town. Nice schools and near the train to NYC (in fact i can walk). I will post a pic.

Another nearby really nice town with good schools is Green Brook, which is in Somerset (it borders Dunellen). Watchung is nice, Middlesex town, South Plainfield, parts of Bridgewater.....let me think of some other towns, I cant remember at the moment. I can recommend an agent if you want to look in Middlesex / Somerset counties. I am not familiar with Morris although I think it may be $$ and I just don't know about Monmouth, not familiar with it.

FM me for any more info!!

I grew up in Mercer County near Princeton, which is more central jersey, but if you are willing to look there I know of some great areas!

Hi! DH & I just bought a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath townhouse in Franklin Park which is in Somerset County about 15 minutes from Princeton -I am a LI transplant but so far am liking NJ for the lower cost of housing, taxes, etc! This is the front view of my townhouse - I am moving in this month. Taxes are around $5K - we live in Somerset nice and like it there too. Feel free to FM me if you want any further info!

Re: Looking to buy in NJ

Are the prices of houses in this area a lot better than being on LI? I know they are still somewhat close to Manhattan so are the costs of these houses close to the costs of houses on LI? My FH and I are looking to get off LI b/c of the cost of the houses here but he does not want to leave his job in Manhattan. These places look good to me! Your houses/townhouses look beautiful!

Any help or advice is appreciated! Thanks!

I almost took a job at Princeton, so we started looking in the Princeton area (about 45 mins. train ride to Manhattan--not bad at all). A nice townhouse that would probably go for 400-450 here were in the low to mid-200s--we are talking gorgeous townhomes (not unlike the one above!). Here's an example in a town we were looking at right near Princeton. Townhouse, 2 bed, 2 bath I LOVED growing up there. In many ways I liked it better than LI, though I do love the beach.

ETS: Here is another townhouse in Somerset to give you an idea of what they go for.

There are a ton of really expensive houses in these areas, but there also seem to be more affordable homes and townhomes.

I also recently moved to NJ and the prices are much better than in NY. I live in Scotch Plains which is in Union County. A great place to check out houses is www.gsmls.com.

well, honestly, mine was a little under $300k - and a house like that in NY or on LI would probably be no less than $425k or so....
