What made you choose Astoria? Just wondering...

I dont' know much about it. I know that Niecey lives there now (although she's moving to LI very soon!) and so does dkga (why I can't remember the last part of her name) (sorry Demetra!)

Edited to add: I personally feel it is very congested, however, I do think their little cafes and bars on Broadway are pretty cool.

we picked it because we both have ****y commutes as of now. I work in the city and he works in Little Neck, so we definitely needed to move closer to the city. I think Astoria is so cute. I always wantd to live in the city, but we cant afford it. and Astoria seems moderately priced.

Re: Looking to move to Astoria

I lived in Astoria for 5 years. My favorite sections are around the 30th ave stop and the Ditmars stop both of the N train. I don't think you'd want to go too close to 21st ST (projects) and I know North by the Water their are projects too! I lived off the 30th Ave stop (33rd ST and 30th ave)... TONS of great restaurants and cafes and GREAT shopping on Steinway as well...
I wouldn't have moved if my DH didn't work in NJ- so I live in Jersey City now... it is congested and parking can be a pain- but that is anywhere near the city- AND if your FH is driving to work then you'll have no problems b/c Alternate side parking won't apply-i'd take congested by foot over congested by car (like some parts of LI) anyday!
I think typical rents are between $1200-2000 depending on how many bedrooms.

Re: Looking to move to Astoria

My husband used to live in Astoria. As everywhere else, there are nice & bad parts to astoria....so def. do your research.

I would look around 30th avenue, broadway & ditmars blvd.

Re: Looking to move to Astoria

Jenn, you work in Astoria?? Where ?

I was born and grew up in Astoria, so I know Astoria all too well...

It used to be a wonderful place, clean, we all knew our neighbors, and everything was wonderful. My parents own a 6 family home there, but they moved last year to a home in Middle Village, because we felt our specific block was changing alot, and we didnt want them living there anymore (near 30th Ave). The home in Astoria is great income because it IS a 'booming' location where lots of Manhattan-ites are moving to. Our tenants are getting better and better because of this (Less and less low-lives that cant pay rent and just give us trouble)

Astoria DOES have alot of GREAT things:
*LOTS of GREAT GREAT restaurants of all nationalities.
*Lots of great cafes with outdoor seating.
*GREAT prices on fruits and veggies!
*Great shopping on Steinway! (miss that too!)

Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent. Feel free to ask me any questions. What type of area are you looking for (within Astoria). Do you want to be in walking distance of shopping? or do you want a more quiet, secluded area. Walk to the train is important, right?

Feel free to FM me, I'll help point you in the right direction!

Or ask me..ill point you in the right direction also...lived here my whole life and still do. Astoria is expensive, I wont lie but where close to Manhatten isnt?

Yes some parts are wonderful and others arent. I actually lived closer to the LIC district and yes there are projects but there are bad parts to every neighborhood.

If you need to know anything...fm me..i can definately help...

shout out to all my astoria ladies....LIC Anna! lol
