Re: Annavan
I am getting married at the hamlet as well! I saw that you guys were posting about the wall (open vs. closed). I have seen it both ways and i think that it looks much better open. The wall is not really that nice. It resembles a wall that you would see in a gymnasium, but one notch better. I called Denise and asked if I could keep the wall open for the cocktail hour as well, but she said that people would probably wander into the reception room and it would create problems. So, I decided that I will have it the way they recommend, and keep the wall closed for the cocktail hour, and open for the reception. I like the idea that guests will be able to spread out. Also, I will be decorating the tables in the cocktail hour room with small floating rose bud vases and i am considering ordering larger flower arrangements for the food tables that will be left in there. I am really curious to hear what everyone else decides!

Re: Annavan
Honestly I think that your guests will stay in that bar area instead of dancing. Plus I HATE those banquet tables left out.I plan on having Denise move some of the planted trees in front of the wall doors. I don't understand why they didn't get a moveable door that matches the rest of the room. But what is done is done.
I do think the room looks nicer with the wall open, because it is bigger and very sunny. But my wedding is 11/2 at night. There will be no sun at that time anyway.

Re: Annavan
I agree that they should have gotten something that matches a little bit better.I am having a good amount of people (about 180 will be the final count), so I am glad to have the extra space. I am hoping that most of the young people will stay in the main room to dance and that the older people will move to the smaller tables in the other section if they want to talk. Either way, I was stressing about this for a good month, and I decided that it's still a really nice place, even with the wall, so I am just going to let whatever happens happen. Also, my wedding is in Aug, which does make a big difference as far as light coming into the room, I think that the sunset will look really pretty.
Oh well, I am really curious to see how the food is. It is the same menu package as the Hamlet in Commack and i heard that the food there is excellent. Are you guys getting any of the add-ons to the menu or are you just going with the regular package?

Re: Annavan
scheca, have you gone for your tasting yet? I'm going on the 13th. I'm supposed to fax her a list of items we want to try from the menu. We're also going to decide on cakes and ice sculptures.
I'm starting to agree with you on the wall issue. I have a very mixed age group and about 175 people. I think it might be better for some people to go off to a smaller table to talk if they want to.
I know the people that really want to be there and share the day with me...will be on the dancefloor or watching.
I'm having an October wedding so I could always go and get mums, pumpkins...whatever...and decorate the banquet tables after the food has been cleared. I love how the room is so open and I went there the other day when the wall was closed and it definitely shrunk the room down a bit. I'm afraid it will look too small with the wall closed.
I'm sure whatever we all decide it will be fine. I just want the day to get here already!!

Re: Annavan
Totally different Chef at the Hauppauge Wind Wind. I met with him two weeks ago. He runs the resturant in the golf club also. I have a tasting on 8/22. And I like the menus are different at each Hamlet but no positive. I have always heard raves about the Hauppauge food.We did not do add-ons. I think the cocktail hour is very nice without paying hundreds of dollars for a piece of meat to get carved. But I did want the raw bar- it was just too expensive. And the amount of people we have who like it is so small that is was a waste of money for us. But I think it looks really cool. I am changing the seafood choice for our main entree. Sea Bass is becoming endangered due to over fishing. So the Chef suggested Swordfish. They also would have done Mahi-Mahi, Orange Roughy or other fish. So ask if you don't see something you want. Plus I requested garlic mashed as our side dish.
Please post your tasting reviews!
Denise should not get annoyed at us either. We have a legimate complaint/question/problem etc.. and she is the event coordinator. That is her job.

Re: Annavan
No, she shouldn't be getting annoyed. And remember...she is our Bridal Assistant that day and she's the one that gets the tips!
SO, while she make think we're annoying brides, we do have concerns...and obviously there is more than one bride concerned about this wall issue!!

Re: Lori - Re: Hamlet
Well, I actually never even thought about the wall issue. We planned on having it closed during the cocktail hour and open during the reception. Our final count is 135, so we are on the smaller side but I figure people can get away from the music and wander onto the porch. For our menu we are starting with the spinach crepe (Defintely try it at the tasting, it is delicious), then the ceaser salad and then: chilean sea bass, filet mignon or one of the chicken filets I forget which one. We tried both chickens and didnt like either so it wasjust a toss up. We did try the filet mignon which was great. Overall, the food at the tasing was very good, Ill let you know more next week. And I dont think Denise is the bridal attendant, at least not for me, because I met another girl who was introduced to me as my attendant. I am really excited, I like the Hamlet, the view is great, the room is intimate and pleasant, the outside porch is nice...well you all know. I will absolutely give reviews.
