losing weight and dress shopping

losing weight and dress shopping

So I have been on this ridiculous diet. lol (more so for health reasons) and i lost 12 pounds. I went from a size 18 to a size 14! BUT I don't know how soon I should be trying dresses on. I tried on three dresses all a size 18 and they fit perfectly( i was told wedding dresses run small) but I need to continue on this diet or my doctor will punch me! lol my goal is to lose a total of 30 pounds. Ideally Id lose 50 but im going to say 30. but that all depends on how soon i should be ordering dresses and whatnot. whats the cutoff time here? lol I just don't want to order now and do a lot of altering or wait and then end up doing it too late...

id wait a bit bc really ordering a dress in a plus size is more expensive. diff designers consider diff sizes plus size. and its not that they run small, its that they go by your exact measurements for the dress. Street sizes are actually wrong.

and you dont wanna alter a dress to fit 2 - 3 sizes down. it may not look right.

I think it depends on where or who your designer is? My dress was not more expensive because it wasn't a small size...

I would try on in your current size to get an idea but then not order maybe after the first of the year... (some dresses take 6 months if they are completely custom, etc... some take less, then alterations)...

ITA, plus, once you changes sizes you may find that different dresses look better on you which changes things. I think you still have quite a bit of time...I would double check with a few salons, but i think at least a couple of months would be safe

i was told from a few stores the dress needs to be ordered 8 months in advance...so you still have time! I found my dress 2 months ago and put down a deposit but didnt have them order it yet bc i was not happy with my weight. so i am going back end Nov and then ordering it based on what will hopefully be smaller measurements.
HTH
good luck and keep up the good work with weight loss!!! i would be happy if i lost 12 lbs!!! im only down 3 lol

You have plenty of time to order. I am ordering my dress 7 months before my wedding. So don't worry! Even if you wait until Feb you will be fine.

yea you should be fine!

wait rather than having the wrong size

i would wait until you are 100% comfortable with your weight, you dont want to order a dress too soon and have it either be too tight or too big!

You gals are worrying me --- so in terms of alterations, how much can they alter? I'm expecting to lose at a maximum 10 pds before my wedding (I'm getting my dress in March, wedding is on April 30th) --- the dress I tried on was way too tight but it still was able to be closed in hah, so they ordered instead of a 10 a size 12 so that the top would fit better and then they can alter. If I lose about 5-10 pds till then, should I be worried about how it can be altered?!?!
