I'm in the middle of losing weight and really don't want to order my wedding dress until I'm 10 lbs from my goal weight. What is the absolute latest that I should order my dress? I've heard 6 months but that seems way to close to the wedding.
Also, what's an ok amount of weight to lose and still have the dress fit properly after alterations for additional weight loss? 5lbs? 10lbs? 15lbs?

Check with your bridal shop. A lot of people told me I had to order my wedding dress 6 months prior, but I explained my weight loss issue with Fantasia bridal and they told me I could wait until 4 months prior.

I think it depends on the dress shop and designer. Mine is taking 7 or 8 months to come in. If you have a dress or shop in mnd, just ask them. they can also tke the dress in up to 4 sizes if you end up losing more weight than expected.

The manufacturer of your dress also might matter- some companies can probably produce dresses faster than others- the detail on your dress also might matter for this reason. I had always heard 8 months, but that's probably to leave lots of room to be safe. I lost about 15 pounds in between ordering my dress and the wedding and it was fine.

One of my BM lost a lot of weight before my wedding. After we picked out dresses she asked the lady to order her dress in a size 10 instead of a 12 (The 12 would have fit her at the time). They scheduled her fitting for a month before the wedding so that she would be about as thin as she was going to get before the wedding.
FYI: They gave her a really hard time about it though. She had to convince them that she had already lost about 15 pounds and that she planned on taking off another 15 before the wedding. Aparently a lot of times they are skeptical because girls will say they plan on losing weight and then never lose the weight so they have to have bigger dresses ordered.

I'd order it sooner rather than later: you won't have to pay rush charges & they can ALWAYS take it in: but taking it out is hard.
I ordered it & then GAINED weight in 6mo & then had to LOSE in 3mo.
I can't change anymore....it fits just a bit loose.

Macys in Herald Square takes about 4 months to come in. I would ask how long it takes for a dress to be made. good luck with the weight loss!

Be careful. You can't always take it in all that much. Hold off as long as you can if you have goal of losing a lot of weight.
I lost a lot of weight & I had to get a buy a new dress weeks before my wedding. They tried taking it in but it ruined the whole balance of the dress. They took it in 3x and it looked awful.
