Okay, I knew the girl we asked to me our flower girl was a little young (she'll be 23 mos @ our wedding), but she is walking so well and her mom and I were going to practice walking down the aisle and thrown petals with her. Her mom (and her gramma) and I were so excited! This is not a relative, but the daughter of a good friend, and the only other girl (of FG age) that FH and I know is the daughter of a friend of his, who I have only met 2x and don't get the opportunity to see that often. And to me a FG should be somewhat close with the bride since they'll be spending a decent amount of time together on a big day!
Well (sorry to ramble on...) today the mother of our current FG (my friend) tells me that she and her husband have been agonizing over how they could make this work. B/C they live in Suffolk and the church is in Queens, the mom would have to come in one car all ready to go to the reception, then the dad would meet her at the church. Then they were not sure what they would do with the FG after the church. Take her to the reception and not FULLY enjoy themselves, or have the gramma watch her. If Gramma watched her, would Gramma meet them at the church or have to take her back to Gramma's in Brooklyn.
Basically, she told me she did not think they or the FG would be up to being the FG.
SO, now I have no FG. I am not mad, just upset b/c I was looking forward to having a FG.
What to do? No dress was ordered, which is good. But I WANT A FG! Sorry, I am such a brat!

I didn't have a flower girl. I think if you don't have anyone really close to you to be one, it's better to go without. Luckily you didn't order a dress or anything for her!

My FG is my niece, and she's going to be 24 months at the wedding. her father, my brother is walking her down the aisle, and she and her parents are going to the reception in a car, not in the limo.(I made this choice after that horrible accident last summer. That poor family.) We're making all sorts of special accomedations for her and I have absolutely no problems with it. She's just a baby and I don't really expect much from her. If she wasn't my niece and god daughter, I wouldn't have wanted her to be my FG. It would have been too complicated. It is already!
Kids in a wedding are hard- you're proabably better off without them. I've been to so many weddings where the kids either had to be carried down the aisle or wouldn't walk. . .

I'm not having a FG either. There was a family that I did want to ask. They have a boy and a girl. But they live in PA, and I didn't want the parents to have to bring them to the wedding.

There is only one other girl that we discussed about asking, but she's going to be 8 1/2 at the wedding (which isn't that bad) and I am not that close with her, I have only met her 2x.

Honestly, I would want someone I was closer to if I was going to ask them. For me that meant having no one, which I was fine with, but if you only met her twice and are just asking to have one, or to have pictures of you with one, that might be for the wrong reasons.

Exactly. That is why I don't want to ask her, but that was the only other contender we had. So looks like we will have no FG, just a RB!

The mothers of the flower girls in my BP are also one of the BMs and one of the MOHs. They recruited their in laws to come to the wedding, stay for the cocktail hour and take thm home afterwards. Do they have a baby sitter they trust who can drive? Offer to pay - maybe that will help.

You're not being a brat . . . you just want a flower girl. Completely understandable. Perhaps, grandma can come to the ceremony and then bring child home with her? Perhaps you can arrange a babysitter for the reception so mom & dad can fully enjoy themselves? Those are the only two suggestions I can come up with.

Thank you all for the suggestions, but the mom seems set on her decision. She said she and her husband had been trying to figure out a way to make it work. It's okay. I am a little better with it now.
