I'm sorry you didn't get the house but I'm sure something better will come your way. Don't lose hope! Your dream house is still out there.

We counter-offered for MORE money and this decision was made last night mind you.

They didn't want to hear about it.

why is that???????????????

how frustrating.

who doesn't like money?

Maybe their offer was stronger... could put more money down... were preapproved... showed proof of income... tax statements... bank statements... etc.

Oh and whatever you do... DON'T ring somebody's doorbell unless you are invited. They will think you are nuts.

Sorry you lost out - it's a bummer and unfortunately, happens to most of us more than once in the house-shopping process these days. One thing I've learned is that if you're making an offer in a 'best and final' situation (i.e. when the sellers are looking at best offers from multiple buyers), then make sure to really offer the most that you are willing to pay for the house, at the best terms (i.e. no mortgage contingency if you can, flexibility on closing date, large down payment, etc.). First determine the amount beyond which you think you won't be upset if you don't get it, then bid that amount. If you really want the house, you can't be concerned with 'getting a deal' or with what the asking price is - you have to offer your best/maximum for that particular home.

PS - I agree that ringing the doorbell is generally not a good idea. You never know what type of people the sellers are.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS CRAP.

I hate this whole process.

We saw our dream out yesterday & it was affordable for us.

WE place a bid on it - and we were neck & neck w/ another couple. Similar in pretty much every way BUT

the homeowners met the couple twice & remembered them.

We also met the homeowners and talked with them a little bit.

When it came down to it - they chose them b/c they met them twice.

It's funny b/c FH and I went back to see the house last night and my dad was like 'ring the doorbell' and we didn't b/c he thought that they would think we were crazy.

I feel like SCREAMING now b/c for the price we were looking at we're gonna now get GRANDMA'S HOUSE and be working in the freaking thing everyweekend for the rest of our lives.

I hate long island.

This happened to us six times SIX! The right house will come along & you will be happier for it.

But I also hate LI when it comes to this.
