'We had a shortage of single men and women invited to our wedding, most of our friends and family were already married. So we needed to come up with something different to replace the traditional bouquet and garter throwing. We invited everyone to the dance floor and the dj played several lovely, slow songs. First the dj told all couples married two hours or less to sit down (everyone got a kick out of that) . Then a few moments later, any married a year or less, than five years, ten years and so on, until there was only one couple left. They were neighbors and friends of my family and had been married for fifty years. We asked them to stay on the dance floor while I took a seat and my husband made a big show of removing my garter. We then faced the winning couple, congratulated them on their fifty years and asked them for their best marriage advice as we presented them with the bouquet and garter. They were very touched and it gave us a great feeling too.'

I love the idea too! I really want to do it, but my grandparents are 85+ and I don't know if they can dance for that long. I guess the DJ could just speed it up a bit. Any other ideas of how I could modify it?

Re: love this idea
We did this too...
But I have to admit -- it was kind of awkward for the couple.... I think they felt very put on the spot!!

Re: love this idea
I was thinking about doing that as well, but only for 1-2 songs tops. It is a very sweet idea. I don't think that I am going to ask them to give us their best marriage advice because I don't want to put them on the spot. I think that we are just going to present the longest couple with the bouquet.

Re: love this idea
We didn't do the garter or bo-k toss. Not my kind of thing. Instead, we had a couple that shared their anniversary date with our wedding date (45 years !) We gave them a presenation bo-k and the RH made up a special cake just for them.
I asked my florist to make the tossing bo-k up in a way that I could put it on my mom's grave the following day. He did such a wonderful job with it, putting the plastic water tubes on each of the roses.

Re: love this idea
yep, we did an anniversary dance, and we gave a bottle of wine to the winning couple and asked them for their marriage advie. it was really a cute moment. we didn't do any garter removal/toss or bo-k toss.
i dunno about the presenting them w/ the garter part, lol. thats kinda weird IMO.

Re: love this idea
Yep this is called the Anniversary dance-except some couples forego the garter part, they usually just give the bok to the couple and sometimes a gift
