Loving the Shiba Inu pics

And I seriously looked into the breed yesterday and I think they have a very similar personality to my Jack Russell but I was concerned because the websites kept saying how they are possessive. Are they good with other dogs? How much of these descriptions are true? TIA

I think Sandy is a little diff from what I have read on other Shibas. We think she was abused or not socialized very well when she was a puppy. Anyway she LOVES other dogs. She does not show any possessive or aggressive signs. She is very shy around people but getting better all the time. She is very playful when its just me and DH around. I love the breed and I am hoping to talk DH into getting her a playmate.

One thing - they shed - a LOT!

Yes they shed 2 times a year. Spring is worse than fall from what I have read. She is starting shed now. Its everywhere. They are very clean - she is always cleaning herself they are very cat like that way. We give her baths and trim her nails but other than that she is easy to take care off. Except when shedding you have to brush them every day or every other day - well at least I try to anyway. All the dog hairs drive me nuts.

Loki is a little posessive, but he is still a puppy. He does like to be the center of attention, and does get a little put-off if we are paying attention to the other dogs.

Eventually, they are supposed to become alomst cat-like in their nature, and will eventually be independent.

The only concern I had was children - the vet did say thatif a Shiba does not grow up with children, then it may not accept them later on. Luckily most of my friends and neighbors have kids, so Loki is grwoing up around them.

The shedding si bad when they lose their puppy fur, but a quick daily brushing keeps it to a minumum.

Good luck, & don't forget to check any of the many Shiba Rescue sites
