Low Funds?

Anyone else out there feeling strapped for cash?
With wedding expenses, living expenses, house hunting etc....

Anyone else relying on the wedding money to put a down payment on a house?

Thanks ladies.

I would recommend not going crazy on the wedding expenses. I don't know of anyone who has made money from throwing a wedding, unless they had a lot of help from parents.

My friend had an absolutely gorgeous wedding and she admits she stayed on a strict budget for saving for a house.

I'm not getting married until 2010, but I can already feel the burden of saving up for the wedding!! We have scheduled payments for our RH (so we have 1/2 paid off by March 2009) and I keep worrying we won't be able to make those payments.

I'm finishing up school and student loans are crazy. Plus, I've been looking like crazy for a job!

There's never enough money....

im feeling like this more then ever! my parents, thank god! are paying for 95% of my wedding. fh and i are paying for the photo/video and a few odds and ends here and there, but nothing crazy. even with my parents helping to pay for so much, it still feels like theres not enough money because we are trying to save for a house, and with student loans, and finishing up school.. its just crazy.

I didn't go crazy on the wedding expenses either. Although everything was costly, I was as realistic as possible.

What I really mean is house hunting is intimidating. And they say it's a buyer's market.
I guess I'm just feeling like it's scary out there, but we're all in the same boat.

What are you & FH doing to save money? We will try to cut back on unnecessary entertainment expenses.

I agree. Saving for a house is so stressful. First the downpayment, then the mortgage.

You will always feel like there is never enough money but there are plenty of ways to save yourself tons of money while planning.

DIYs

You can print your own invitations (staples has invites that all you do is put in your wording and they print up/I am sure there are other places too-Michaels, AC Moore), programs, placecards, etc. can all be done by you and a printer and some card stock...same with an aisle runner.

You can make your own CPs, scratch flowers altogether and do candles, Walmart, Michaels, AC Moore all carry glass hurricanes in different shapes and sizes-you can also get live flowers from Walmart/Grocery stores for your boks or CPs if you really want to do that.

Pick and choose what is important to you as far as your wedding is concerned and stick to that.
You can save $ on your RH by choosing an out of season month and time, pick a saturday afternoon or sunday afternoon-even evening on sunday in Oct-February. Alot of halls include your cake, linens, seating cards (tho they may not be what you like) and some will even supply flowers for CH.

Give yourself your main budget and go from there and dont stray away from it. It can be done as long as you are willing to keep the 'extras' out. We had a budget-it wasnt tight but we stuck to it-no slipper baskets, oot boxes, bathroom baskets-we didnt even do programs for the church-it can be done.

Good Luck

I'm not doing out of town boxes either. I don't feel that my guests will miss them. Also, most of them originally lived here before they moved so they don't need a guide to L.I. Tourism. LOL

I totally feel strapped. FH and I both just finished law school and have loans like you wouldn't believe. Now we are paying for the wedding and wanting to buy a house soon. Thank god FH is good with budgets or we might be in trouble.

I'd like to meet a bride who isn't strapped for cash! I think it goes with the territory, no matter what kind of budget you put yourself on, you'll still feel it. FH and I are paying for 1/2 the wedding and my parents are paying for the other 1/2. I know my purse is a lot lighter these days..Everything seems to go straight to something for the wedding, but it'll be worth it to me in the end. I want to have a kick ars wedding. I'm not saying I'm going for broke, but I'm not going to sacrifice too much either.

I worked part time while I was going to school and I thought that with a job lined up after graduation I'd be rolling in dough... picture scrooge mcduck swimming in his money. Then reality set in. Since we already signed contracts we are still going ahead with the wedding but scaling down a lot.

We don't live in together so moving in and buying furniture and house things alone is overwhelming. I couldn't imagine buying a home at this time!

Keep planning for the future but try not to get so stressed. I find I get overwhelmed trying to do everything at once and planning a lot for the future so I need to balance looking ahead with enjoying the present.

The only way we are going to get into a house is if we make some money at the wedding- and move down to NC. I hate always feeling like I will be renting for the rest of my life. Hopefully one day we will have enough for a down payment

We're probably going to get an apartment for a year or so - just bc we don't know how much the wedding is REALLY going to cost and at least if we have a year to re-save we won't have to worry about a down payment and mortgage right away.

Re: Low Funds?

not too much. we really have made a budget and stuck to it and have a separate wedding fund, separate vacation fund and separate house/new co-op fund

we just had to priorritize. would i like a few more things at the wedding or a slightly bigger guest list? sure but there are other expenses and things we need to save for too

we're trying to manage it all and believe the wedding will be great
