Low income family homes

Low income family homes

Can someone tell me where or who to contact when looking to buy a home, but have a low salary between the two of us? I know there are some real estate companies out there just don't know who!

My hubby and I are desperate to move out, but we have very little $ right now.
Can someone help us?

Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc.
180 Oser Ave., Suite 800
Hauppauge, NY 11788
(631) 435-4710

It's a free service. We went their to find out exactly what we could afford and to learn about the process of buying a house. Anyone can go there. It was very helpful to get a breakdown of the costs and the process. I'm sure they would be able to help you find a house or refer you to a program that does.

We also went there. There are some programs that give closing cost assistance, or require less money down, but there are very few homes for less money because they are low income. Every few years the counties do a housing lottery for low income families, but there were thousands and thousands of entries for very few homes. Have you considered moving off of LI?

Yes definetly go to Long Island Housing Partnership. We went there. Even though we didnt qualify for anything, they are so helpful. Lynn Law is absoulty wonderful. She explained everything to us, and when we were ready she found us a great bank that would help us. She shopped around all the banks for the best terms. ex. we put 10% and the bank she found us isnt charging us PMI.

Lynn will really help you.Oh and we are closing on Tuesday

if you are a first time homebuyer you would qualify for SONYMA (state of ny mortgage agency) I used to work there very successful program

check out the website nyhomes.org

We had huge issues with SONYMA and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are only a handful of banks that deal with SONYMA, and there are a ton of stipulations even if you are within the income level (I believe then it was $80,000 combined income for a family of 2). The paperwork took months, and we nearly lost our home because the sellers couldn't wait, and then at the last minute SONYMA did not approve us. No valid reason--we had all paperwork in on time. We were dealing with the Bank of NY, who I do blame, but the program just seems like there are issues if for months you can be told you are eligible and then all of a sudden you aren't.
