Low Sugar Levels...EDITED!!!!!

Last Friday I went for a 5 hour glucose test, and the results showed that I have low sugar. It tured out to be a 43 which is low. I have Post Prandial?? sp? Hypoglycemia.
I have to now go see an endocronologist.

I forgot to ask my dr. if that could be causing a problem w/TTC. I just called back and she left.
Does anyone know about this???
Thanks

Re: Low Sugar Levels.....

Diane...

I cannot say for sure, b/c I am not a medical professional, BUT...based upon my limited knowledge of the endocrine system, it might have some type of effect on your TTC efforts.

For example...my situation...I am insulin resistant, which means a hormonal imbalance causes my body to not ovulate and not use insulin properly....also, another example...hormonal imbalances cause an under production of insulin in pregnant women, which means gestational diabetes...so, there may be a link from this to your TTC efforts - OR there may not....but, in the very least it is worth asking your doctor AND especially the endocrinologist!

Don't worry, though....no matter what, knowing about this and being able to correct it will make you feel so much better!
Please let us know what the doctor says.

Re: Low Sugar Levels.....

I have hypoglycemia and was diagnosed before TTC. The endocrinologist ran a bunch more tests even after failing the 5 hr. glucose prescribed by my GP. He said the results showed TTC should not be a problem and would not make me a high risk PG either. I waited until I had my sugar under control through diet before TTC. It did take about 8 months to get pg the first time, but I do not attribute this to hypoglycemia. It only took one month to get pg this time. I do notice at the beginning of my pregnancies that my levels get a bit shaky until I get used to being pregnant. You will still have to take the GTT while pregnant. Believe it or not I actually failed the 1 hr. but passed the 3 hr. This time I have to take the GTT earlier since I have a higher risk than most for GD. I wish you luck and do not think your sugar disorder will prevent you from conceiving. If you would like to read a book on hypoglycemia, I found The Low Blood Sugar Handbook to be helpful. I did not get much info from the endo. and stopped going after a few months. I have educated myself extensively on this topic so FM me with any ?'s.
