Lower Starting Weight- Weight Watchers

Hi all,

I am not really overweight. However, after graduating college and trying to settle into the real world, I have steadily been gaining weight.

In fact, I gained 15-20 pounds in the past 2 years. On top of that, I find that there is no food that I can really resist. Whatever I have around the apartment, now that I live with my FH, is a temptation. I can't stop eating- for so many different emotional reasons, and I can't get a handle on my habits.

When I was in college, I kept really busy, walked around campus in between classes, and worked at a Curves in my free time...so I didn't overeat. Now that I'm a teacher, when I have a prep and am planning, I have to at least pop lots of gum...my lunch is at 10:30 in the morning... I get antsy and stressed at the same time very easily...truth be told, I really really miss being active and working at Curves...I joke with a friend of mine that I wish I had some sort of mindless job just running around for people...

My mother was overweight her whole adult life, before dying at age 48...I am very much like her. I went into a Weight Watchers at the end of the summer, hoping to join...I was very polite and sincere, because I kinda thought they'd think I had no reason to join. I didn't want to join because I thought I was fat...I wanted to join, because I want to get a hold on my eating habits/a healthy relationship with food.

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!

Btw, right now, I live in Williston Park...the WW I tried to join in the summer was not around here.

What advice are you looking for? Anyone can join WW as long as you have at least 5 pounds to lose.

I lead meetings in Lynbrook and Plainview if you want to come check one out.

5? That's it? I'm 5'3.5' and 127 lbs...I was 115-118 throughout college..that's my happy weight. I just would love to get back there and feel like I'm in control of my eating habits. A lady at one told me that I didn't weigh enough to join... does anyone know anything about the New Hyde Park one? It's pretty close to me, and I was thinking about checking it out...but I was pretty upset when the lady was rude to me at the other one...

Thanks for your encouragement!

edit: wow, I didn't even realize that you said you are a leader...could you FM me and let me know when you work at those locations? Thanks so much!! :)

What has worked for me is to steadily get into an excercise program first, and then to tackle the diet. I find that I'm more motivated to eat healthfully when I've spent some time in the gym most days of the week. It sounds like this may also work for you from what you posted.

When is convient to work out for you? Before work, after work?

Re: Lower Starting Weight- Weight Watchers

Thank you for the advice, but I go to the gym and walk already. That is true, though. Two weeks ago, when I was going to the gym and walking every day...I ate a lot less and lost weight that week. The past two weeks I was worried about an audition I had to sing for, so I didn't go walking and didn't work out as much...I hung around at home -practicing here and there...and doing more procrastinating/eating... The weekends are hard if I'm not keeping busy all day...I just can't stop eating if I'm at all bored or antsy...I think I'm just not used to having free time and living with my fiance

That's crazy that the leader turned you away because you didn't need to lose weight. You obviously went to WW to lose weight in a healthy way, so it's not like you were looking to get unhealthily skinny.
