macys manhassett

Has anyone had there bridesmaid dresses from there?? Each one of my girls got measured and they are all like 3-5 sizes too big, each dress has to be taken in dramatically I feel bad all my girls are pissed because they are charging an arm and a leg to altar.

Has anyone had this problem????

My friend had us order our BM dresses from there a few years ago and we all had the same problem. Fortunately, we all paid up front for alterations(I think it was an extra $60) so even though we needed massive alterations it was at one fixed price ( one girl weighed about 95 pounds and they insisted she needed a size 8 when she was really a size 0!). Then there was one girl who was about 5'11' & they insited she needed to order the gown in an extra length size (which of course cost more). When she got the dress it was about 6 inches too long and they cut it all off anyway. She was so angry. I don't know what kind of tape measure they use there. Maybe they use the metric side of they tape

I'm in a wedding in April and we got our BM dresses there and we got the same thing. Mine was way too big on top, another girl they told she was too tall and needed to order the extra length which turns out she really didn't need it and only one I think so far seems to be ok. I think we paid $40 for the alterations. It could have been worse I guess but my friend (the bride) is not too happy b/c the one who got the extra length is being charged like $70 or something.

Well now this kinda explains alot and I guess this is what I'm in for. My bridesmaids dresses just came in there and they are supposed to start their fittings in a few months. I am SO glad I told them not to order the long/tall size for my 5'9' BM! The seamstress (Josephine?) said it was up to me as the bride and I said I didn't care and my BM could just get the regular size.

Hmmm now this also might explain why my hip measurement was a full 3' off (they measured me 3' bigger than I am) when they measured me. Now I'm thrilled my hip measurements don't figure into my dress!

Interestingly enough, the bridal consultant (Betty) measured me for my dress and she actually told me to get a size smaller than I currently wear.

My girls were charged between $80.00 - $120.00 for alterations I am calling them today because every single one was tremendous.

Only one or two of my BM had a problem and I got 8 dresses from there. The one that had the problem didn't have her measurments taken at macys. Honestly I didn't have any big problems and all of the girls seemed to like Macys- only one did her alterations there tho- and all she needed was length. I'm sorry that so many had that problem tho- that's not a fun thing to have happen!

Re: macys manhassett

Well I just called there and spoke to the manager she was very nice I explained that my girls were not happy because they were told these dresses run small so that's why they should be a little bigger, and not one was small in fact one dress can fit two people!!!!!! So she is going to go over all the measurements and see what each girl was charged and call me back and issue a credit for some of the alterations. I explained to her that I am happy with my dress I absolutely love it and I want my girls to feel the same way, so hopefully she will work with me. We will see

I totally agree. My sister looked for her dress their, and found one that she liked, but didn't love. They wrote down that they would order a 16 for her, even though the sample was a 10 and it fit her perfectly (it was actually a little big in the waist). I know that sample gowns tend to stretch out a bit, but there's no way they stretch out 3 sizes!!!!

I totally think they're doing this to increase the $$ they get for alterations...The best thing to do is have someone else take your measurements before you go, and then demand to see the size chart before they order it...

Sorry to about your situation. Hopefully they will fix it. I have ordered Bm dresses at Macys with no problems, they ordered my dress & I needed no alterations.

As far as purposely, ordering bigger sizes, the employees at the Macys do not make more money for the alterations as opposed to a smaller bridal salon that makes money on doing alterations.

The alteration fees are paid to Macy's and not directly to seamstress. I just don't see the logic that Macys would purposedly order the wrong sizes. JMO

I think they do this because dresses that are too small are a real problem. When I was ordering my dress, I insisted on ordering a different size than they recommended, but I could hear the sobs of a girl who got her dress and it didn't fit. Maybe they just want to prevent that. That I can't blame them for - but 3 sizes too big is out of control. They really should stop doing that.
