Macy's return policy question

So I bought my daughter a Coach wristlet for Christmas, using the 25% Friends and Family discount. She exchanged it today for another color and they made her pay $13.00 for the new one (the amount of the discount).

I think that is incorrect. I know its only 13 bucks..but it just annoys me. We're they correct?

Was it the same exact Wristlet - just another color? If that's the case, then no they should not have done that.
