I would like to start registering before the summer is over (I'm a teacher) and I'm torn about which store to go to. Macy's has a lot more stores and is more convenient for everyone (myself included!), but I heard Fortunoff has better stuff. Also, I heard Macy's sometimes has problems with merchandise being out of stock and that Fortunoff is more expensive. I'm going crazy!! Where would you go???

They are both great. Why don't you register at both?

Good idea, but I'm also registered at Crate and Barrel and I wasn't sure I wanted to do 3 places.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
we'll probably do three. We want to do Fortunoff, Bed Bath and Beyond and a third place. We have A LOT of out of town guests so its good to give them a choice (since Fortunoff is out of the question for them, unless they buy online)

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Fortunoffs. They had some items in both stores. I actually tried to see if it was cheaper in one store or the other and also remembered coupons that could be used. I actually think the merchandise in Fortunoff was cheaper than Macy's for my china. Fortunoff has more sales like by one get the 2nd half off.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I started a registry at Macy's and decided to cancel it and move to Fortunoff. They were much nicer and had a lot more in stock. Overall, they have a better selection. I figure that people can buy online if they aren't near a Fortunoff store.
We also registered at Pottery Barn. I love it there!

We registered at bed bath and beyond ( I live that place so so much) and we also registered at macy's. I love fortunoff's for quality and selection but unfortunatly we have alot of people comming from out of town so we felt it would be impractical.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I registered at Fortunoff and loved it. I wouldn't do Macy's unless it's the Herald Square location because that's the only one whose selection compares to fortunoff. Many people saw what I had on my Fortunoff registry online and bought the stuff from macy's if it was more convenient/cheaper.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I registered at both (for other's convenience). Don't to that. I took most of my things off of Macys and switched to BBB. Fortunoff's isn't more expensive - - actually my China (Lenox) was cheaper there then Macys. Fortunoff's offers free wrapping, Macy's charges unless it's over $300 purchase, Macys is always out of stock, and to register for anything in the stores is near impossible. 1 to 2 scanners available, whereas Fortunoff's you never wait.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I didn't register at Macy's because I know a lot of friends and family that registered there and had problems. I know that personally when I went to buy someone something off their registry there, it seemed very unorganized and they were out of everything. I registered at Fortunoff and Bed, Bath and Beyond since we only have 2 people coming to the wedding that don't live in either New York or New Jersey.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I registered at Macy's and have had no problems so far. Someone I know registered at Fortunoffs and was having issue returning gifts. I also heard people having problems with C&B and BB&B (me being one of them). Well I registered at C&B too. I chose Macys over Fortunoffs b/c it is more convenient for everyone. I would suggest registering at both. I have seen people register at 3 places. Its up to you but you will get mixed reviews on this.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
We registered at Fortunoff and two other places. I don't see a problem registering at both Fortunoff's and Macy's. A lot of my out-of-town guests bought our gifts off their websites, so I didn't really need a store that was all over the country.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I registered at both. I put all my china, silver and crystal as well as the bathroom stuff on Fortunoff and all the rest at Macys. The china was cheaper at Fortunoff. Most people bought from the macys registry out of convenence. Honestly, I like the selection at Fortunoff better. But you may want to have both if you can for those who either cannot get there or do not have the opportunity to go on line. Theres nothing wrong with that.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
DO NOT REGISTER AT MACY'S!! Not only is customer service truly awful, they rarely have any of the items in stock. A friend has a big registry there that she did in Danbury. I went to Herald Square to get a gift for her. The registry is still full and with over 50 items - Herald Square did not have one item!! I said I wanted to walk out with some gift and they said they did not have any of in stick. No pots, pans, bedding, flatware, stemware or china.
I used to be a buyer for MACY'S a few years ago and I know Herald Square usually gets everything and smaller stores get more limited quantities so if I coudn't find anything at the flagship - your guests are really going to be left empty handed.
They also do not notify you if an item is discontinued and there is rarely anyone to help. When I explained that I really just wanted to walk out with something, I was told that most people send the gifts anyway. In that case - your guests can call or use the web. there is no advantage to going to a store that has a local store near your guests. They have to order it and have it sent (at an additional charge) anyway. MACY'S is really a disaster and not worth the headache from what my friends have told me. I am registering at Fortunoff and then will decide if I want to supplement it with Bloomingdales, William Sonoma or Crate and Barrel.

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
My best friend just got married, and had the same dilemma. She registered at Macy's only, since it was more convenient for her to go and add things, delete things, etc. and the location of Macy's is MUCH more convenient for all of your guests. SHe had a GREAT experience.
You can always go to Fortunoff after the shower, and choose things that you love, they DO have gorgeous stuff. They aint goin' nowhere, you and hubby can make a shopping day of your own at Fortunoff.
Fortunoff's return policys, and the procedure to process a return is HELL.
Good luck in whatever you choose !

Re: Macy's vs. Fortunoff
I can't speak as a bride, but as a guest. Macy's is a BIG PAIN! There is never anyone available to help you. Stuff is always discontinued. Things vary from store to store A LOT. I have a lot of friends in different areas of the country that registered at Macy's, and when I would got to buy a gift, the stores around here wouldn't have it. I usually end up at BB&B or Fortunoff's, so I registered with them. Good luck!
