I think the first thing you need to do is go to social security with your marriage license and chance your name.

maiden name on marriage license - need to change for SS card
If you didn't put your new name on your marriage license i believe you have to file for a name change. Then you can change your marriage license. After that, you can update your ss card etc.

Re: maiden name on marriage license - need to change for SS card
Your marriage license is what you went to town hall to get before you were married so that you were 'allowed' to be married.Your marriage Certificate - aka Certified Transcript of Marriage - is what is needed to change your name at SS, DMV, banks and other places.
On your marriage Certificate it should have the name you plan on using - where it says New Surname on the line Right below your full maiden name.
Start with SS, then DMV as DMV is required within 10 days of a change and DMV is open late on Thurs. while SS is not.
Get to SS EARLY or you will have a long wait. I was there around 8:30am, they check you in, give you a number and once 9am rolls around start calling you to a window. I was out in 20 minutes. Make sure you have ALL the documentation you will need before going or you will have to go back another time.
When you go to DMV to change your name on your license you Have to get a new picture. Believe me, I found this out at the counter because the woman directing me didn't know and was new-ish at the job. The clerk behind the counter was very helpful and understanding though and we got it done. Don't forget to also do the name on your registration And the title on your car. The form for the Reg and Title are the same form and can be used for both at the same time. The form for the License is different. When you get the new registration you will have to change the one on your window. There is a new code number on it and the old one won't jive with your new reg card if God forbid you get pulled over.
If your husband is already on some bank accounts with you and you change your name on them he will Have to be there to sign the same form you are as you have a joint account even if it's just so he can write checks in case of emergency.
Before you go to town hall to see about changing your name because of the marriage license - check your Certificate. If that does not show a new surname as I stated above then call them and see what has to be done.
Make a list of all the places you have to change your name, ex: storage unit if you have one, all your credit cards Major and store ones, the above mentioned, any other things you are certified or licensed for, such as if you have a CPA, RN, etc.
Good Luck and congratulations on your wedding, may you have a long and happy marriage.
