Maiden to Middle Name - what did you do??

Hi,
I wanted to change my Maiden name to my middle name. I have read that a lot of girls have no problem doing this at SS office & others have had to go to court to file a name change. What is your experience? Also what do you put as your surname on the marriage license - your new surname or hyphenated? I want my name to be: First Middle Maiden Married

I'm pretty sure that NY won't let you do this - you can either keep your old last name, take your married name and eliminate your current last name, OR hyphenate. I think it's ridiculous b/c I want to do the same thing - change my current last name to a 2nd middle name. Ultimately, I think you have to go to court to do it.

Someone on one of the other boards told me you can write it on the application as Maiden Space Married in the spot for your new surname - without the hyphen. She got hers in Brooklyn & I am planning to go to Queens; so I am going to try & see if they let me do it that way!!
