Mailing Invitation question

Mailing Invitation question

I'm trying to print those clear labels for my invitations and I ran into a question.
Do I address Mr. John Doe and Guest or just Mr. John Doe?
For the RSVP card do I write their names and Guest or do I leave it blank for them to fill it out?

Re: Mailing Invitation question

You leave the rsvp card blank-usually you address the outer envelope to the person you know and are inviting:
Miss Jane Smith
111 Newburg st
Babylon, NY 11702
then you write Miss Smith & Guest on the inner envelope.

What if there's not inner envelope???

Re: Mailing Invitation question

You should address the outer envelope to whomever is invited. That is the only way your guests will know if they are invited with a guest or their children, etc.

Ms. Jane Doe & Guest

Mr & Mrs. Art E. Choke & Family

If there's no inner envelope then you need to address the outer envelope to whomever you're inviting. So it would read:
Mr. Joh Doe and Guest
123 Sesame Street
Anytown, New York 45678

You need to put 'and Guest' so that they know they can bring someone.

You shouldn't fill out the RSVP card tho, let them do that. This way you'll know if they're bringing a guest or coming solo based on how they fill it out.

But what do you do if you have a group? Like a family of five and no inner envelope? It will look really tacky to have all of their names on the envelope, so what do we do? Do we buy outer enveloeps or just do something with the response card? We don't want them to bring guests so how do we handle it? Any past brides, we really need you on this!!

The Smith Family
66 Road Street
Town, ST 00011

Or

Mr. and Mrs. James Smith and Family
66 Road Street
Town, ST 00011

You ONLY put 'and family' or 'and guest' on the outer envelope if there is NO inner envelope.

You don't fill out the RSVP Card - they should do that (based on who is coming)... but do number the back in case they neglect to fill it out! (# the guest list and put the corresponding # in pencil on the back of the response card - just in case!)

I should add...

If the response card says 'We have reserved ___ seats in your honor...' and you're filling that it, you don't have to put 'and guest' or 'and family' on the outer envelope.

Also, if any of the children are over 10 or 11, they should get their own invite. (Some people make the cut off older, though, so do what you think is appropraite. Certainly teenagers should get their own)

Re: Mailing Invitation question

I had no inner envelope.... For couples (married or not), I obviously addressed the outer envelopes to both...

For singles + guest, I addressed the outer envelope to the one person, and added a business card-sized note in the envelope stating that they are welcome to attend with a guest if they desire...

Similarly, for couples with kids, I had notes saying children are welcome

the RSVP cards were left blank for them to fill out
oh, and children 18+ got their own invitation, even if they still live at home...
