Maitre D tip for RD??

I was calling places today for our rehearsal dinner and one of the places told that I have to give a Maitre D tip. I know at my RH they told me this, but does this usually happen for a rehearsal dinner??

I'm completely clueless when it comes to things like this.

i hate tipping. There should just be one payment and that's it.. It just adds one more annoying thing to worry about.
