Maitre'D tip?

Maitre'D tip?

My contract from Fox Hollow recommends $3-5pp for the Maitre'D. We just got back from their to drop off all of our stuff (!!!) and he said that it $600 is expected, we have 104 people attending our wedding. And to top this off, this 'suggestion' came from the guy who is actually going to be our Maitre'D!

Thoughts?

wow that is pretty gutsy of him to say that! I'm having a 100 person wedding too and was not planning on tipping $600! I was thinking more so like $350 especially since I am booking a DOC that will take a lot of the load of the MD.

Honestly, if all these vendors 'require' these tips they should just include it in their price to begin with!! I would imagine it is going to be very hard to come up with the extra cash towards the very end.

Well Good Luck! What are you going to do?

No way should you tip $600. Also, since your contract says $3-$5, stick with the amount you were going to do before his 'suggestion'.

I couldn't believe that he had the nerve to say that!! Very rude IMO especially since he will be working with us for our wedding. I was thinking between $350 and $425 - not 600!!

We did learn during this meeting that he has been working in catering halls for a very long time. We asked how old he was -- only 23!! Should I be nervous? oyyyy

Sorry, but yes you should be nervous. Since you are having a small wedding, they probably are giving the job to someone without much experience.
If you feel uncomfortably, call the hall and see if you can request someone else.

I would be appalled if that was told to me. I would prolly complain. It is a tip for a reason.

Tip what you feel comfortable, and remember that the 3-5 per person is a recommendation. If our Maitre 'D says this to me, money WILL come out of that envelope!! I suggest giving the tip at the end of the night as well, see how he does!

No I am definitely tipping at the end of the night! Hope all goes well... I'll give him a chance there isn't much that needs to be done. I trust my other, more experienced, vendors can also help the day go by smoothly! :)

We had 125 ppl and I tipped our Maitre'D $450 based on the 3-5 pp range. So I think he is quoting you too much.

I'm playing it by ear (but def not 600!) that's just crazy!
I agree since I have a DOC, my Maitre D will not be overworked so depending on how much he/she does I will base it on that.

when I was 23 I had already been I'm the restaurant and wedding industry for 6 yrs and MD'd hundreds of weddings. Don't let that be a factor.

I would be ,ore upset that he has the balls to tell you what to tip him.
! I've been in this industry forever and there should be so,e dignitary and grace when it comes to asking for $$... You let you're performance and service dictate your tip. If your that good you should have no problem getting $600... But speak w your bm snout how unprofessional he sounds. Keep him on his toes
