Im filling out my NY voter registration card. Should I register as a democrat or a republican? Views wise im really not either. I vote for the person I think would do a better job, not what party they are in. I have voted republican before and I have voted democrat before. But I dont want to put independant cus I want to vote in the preliminaries. So I'll let you decide for me.

I usually vote for the better person also. You can put indpendent for now, and then when the next primaries come around fill out a new form. Or just put which way you think you may be voting for in November.

Since the primaries are over, you can go independent. Then in four years, you can switch back.

see I would put independant. Thats what I always did before. But if I do that- I know myself and I know I wont take the time to switch. So thats why I want to do one or the other now.

Actually if you are independent you can't vote in the primary if you try to switch. NY has very strict laws and they only count a party change after a presidential election. I know people that tried to change to the democratic party to vote for Obama over a year before the primary - they still couldn't. It doesn't really matter for much else - so I'd just pick one of the two.
(and if you live in parts of southwest Nassau - I'm marrying a very cute candidate - so vote for him!)

I have independent. But I lean republican, so I vote for you to pick republican.
This is really only a decision you'll be able to make weigh the pros and cons of each party against your beliefs and see where you fit in the best.

My other thing with this is, I might like to vote for the party I am less likly to lean towards. This way at least I prefer the person that becomes the candidate even if the person I vote for loses. Does that makes sense? LOL.

What is important to you? I wold look at what both parties are putting out there, and make the decision that best suits you and your family.

DH and I never agree on politics. LOL. He was very pro Obama this year and I was very pro Hillary and Guliani in the beginning. This past year I would have liked to have voted as a democrat in the preliminaries. But other years I would have wanted to vote republican (preliminaries). Im just trying to think which I might want to do more in the future. LOL Im also bored and making this a much bigger deal than it is.

Re: Make a decision for me...
I just remembered, a doctor of mine told me that he registered as a democrat and his wife registered as a republican - not necessarily reflecting their views - so that they can have a say in both primaries. I thought that was a novel idea.
Also, as strange as it sounds, you might want to consider the kind of job you have/will be looking for in the future. If you want something vaguely having to do with government - remember that Democrats control Nassau and NYS governments. They do look at this stuff.

it does make sense, that's what my dad does...haha....he's republican but is registered democrat and likes to vote in the democratic primary.....but it's actually just leftover from when he was younger he was democrat and has never changed it.
Keep in mind though you'll get mail and phone calls from whichever you pick I think...

Re: Make a decision for me...
I think Ill put democrat. My reason is I tend to have stronger feelings positive and negative about their candidates than I do towards republicans. So I think I'll be wanting to vote in their primaries more often. Thanks for the help ladies!

LOL whenever that happens at my parents house- of course always during dinner- we always say something like 'ya we were going to vote for that person, but now that they had you selfishly disrupt our dinner, we are voting for the other person.' LOL we are mean.
