Make up done at a counter?

I have heard of people having their make up done at a dept. store counter. Has anyone done this or know if it is a good idea. Do you make an appointment? TIA!

Been there, done it. Sometimes you have ot make an appointment, but there may be a minimum you need to buy. If you go up to the counter, you can just ask them for a make over adn if you want, tip them.

Would any of you trust that on the day of your wedding? I love Lancome. I use all of their make up. I was thinking of going there because my ceremony is later in the day. I just want it to be perfect.

I wouldn't trust it for my wedding day. What if they are busy, what if you don't like it. You can go with someone before your wedding at tthe counter and maybe book them for your wedding.

I think sometimes if you go for the trial early and you like it, you can talk to the person. I think that some of them do makeup on the side besides doing it at the counter... I could be wrong but for some reason I remember hearing this somewhere....

You could probably even get them to go to your house if they're doing it as a side job!

I am pretty sure some of them do this as well.

You could also go for the trial and make an appointment at the counter if they HAVE to work the day of your wedding.

As a bridesmaid, I went to the Clinique counter at Broadway mall. I had a trial that was free and the girl wrote down everything she used on me and I bought the concealer and gave her a tip. I made an appointment to go back on the day of the wedding and she did it exactly the same, I bought the lipstick and gave her a tip. I was very happy with the service. I believe they said they do brides and bridesmaids at no cost, you should just make an appointment.

My friend got married last year and she went to a different counter each week, got the free makeover, bought the product and then returned it a few days later when someone else was working. Afterward, she decided on who she liked the best and asked them to come do her makeup for her wedding. It's sneaky, but she looked great

i know someone who works at a makeup counter. she has told me that tons of the girls with her job, including her, do makeovers on the side (weddings or whatever). i didn't realize it but she made it seem like it was pretty common.
