Make up question

Make up question

I have decided that for budgetary reasons, I will be doing my own make up for my wedding. I am finding discounted high end products which have made me very happy and excited, however I am proceeding with caution as far as foundation goes.

I am very concerned about sweat ruining my make up... even if I had it professionally done I would be worried about this. I tend to sweat very easily, I have ever since I was a little kid. And being the genius I am, I picked a July wedding date...

Does anyone know what the best products or best regime for a sweaty bride? I have seen so many products but I would like to know what actually works. Thanks!

Any matte foundation would be best for people with oily/sweaty skin, followed by a matte pressed powder. I tend to have this same problem during the summer months, and these products work wonders on reducing shine and sweaty/oily faces! Check sephora's selection on matted foundations. I buy Hourglass and its one of the best, and not as costly as some other foundations there. I think its about 55 bucks.

It seems like you've already made up your mind, but I would really advise going the professional route. By the time you stock up on ALL the products you will need, I don't think you'll be that far off from a moderate make up artist. Plus, the combination of being prone to sweat (I totally feel you here) and a July date (once again, I sympathize), I really think a professional with airbrushing is the way to go. Think about the stress you'd save yourself. Maybe spend the money here and try to cut somewhere else.

I am no make up expert at all which is why I splurged for the professional route

I agree that the professional route is best and probably similarly prices. There's a little make-up store in Huntington Village called RJ West. The girls there are so nice and I'm sure they can give you make-up tips and show you the best make-up and how to use it. Sounds like a Mac counter but not so 'cakey.' Hope this helps.

Thanks all. I am pretty set on doing it myself. I will probably pay somewhere close to a reasonable professional, but I like the idea of getting to keep the makeup after, and sharing with my girls. For example, I bought a $35 Urban Decay palette of 12 eye shadows on Ebay. I am no expert, but I can certainly research and practice! I keep reminding myself that even Princess Kate did her own wedding makeup :)

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am having my older sister do my makeup, she isn't a professional but she took a few classes in cosmetology when she was in high school. My other sister also did the same thing and between all of the bridesmaids helping out she looked great! She had no problems with runny makeup or anything and it looked just as good as a professional would have (fake eyelashes and all). Plus, after all is said and done you have a bunch of new great quality makeup for other special events.

I am definitely a supporter of doing your own makeup. Best of luck!!

I am planning to do my own make up also :) I usually use urban decay all nighter spray during hot summer and my makeup won't budge for atleast 6 hrs..and I think u'll also need mattifying face primer.

My sister is a hairdresser and makeup artist, so she will be doing my makeup and hair. I don't wear any makeup on a daily basis, so I wouldn't be doing my own makeup anyway

I would be careful about makeup you buy on eBay. Make sure it is a reputable seller. I've heard horror stories about fake merchandise coming from overseas. I think one of the morning shows has a segment recently on it.

Urban decay DESLICK spray, works WONDERS!!! Used to use it on my girls when we were on dance teams. It's a matti flying and makes your makeup last longer. And agree with everyone else, matte foundation, with a good highlighter, you also don't want to look flat in pictures.

I'm a little late on this, but you should definitely look on YouTube. My sister learned to do her make up on YouTube, and finds the best methods and products there. She always looks stunning and she never has runny make up. Then again, she also learned how to make her own sew on wigs on YouTube, so she might be a special case. It takes time and effort, but if you're consistent, you will find the perfect products and look amazing on your wedding day. Good luck!!

I would also make sure that you use a primer before foundation and before eye shadow. It will REALLY help make sure that that makeup stays put. My eyeshadow primer was from urban decay and I love it. My foundation primer is from smashbox and its great also - i believe it has a small SPF also.

Try use something without SPF, they say it has reflective properties that can show in photos. I can't recommend any that I personally know of and like without it. I have an airbrush machine and use it everyday. It wears great and has been much more cost effective than purchasing a $40 bottle of foundation every couple of months. Good luck!

There is also Mac - if you go to a Mac store thy will do your makeup for free you just need to spend 50$ on product (and it doesn't need to be what they used on you that day)
