this is a stupid question but how far in advance do you think you need to book a make-up artist? And also, do you have the trial and then decide to book them? Will they hold the date? I am so confused and have no clue about this. Please help!

Re: make-up trial question
Although some wedding magazines suggest waiting 4-5 months prior to the wedding to find a makeup artist, it seems like things book up quickly in NYC/LI. Example, I called people in August who were booked for my date--July 2005. So, I guess it's never too early to start looking, especially if makeup is important to you and you want to get your top choice.
The way it works in my experience is that you book the trial to see if you like what they do and see how well they listen to what you want. After that, many artists will give you a week or 2 to decide and they'll hold your date. If you decide to book, usually they will ask for a deposit.
Also, some artists won't travel unless you're having a certain number of people get their makeup done. So, I've been told that to come to Westchester, they need me + 3 people, etc.

Re: make-up trial question
Oh, and just be sure to ask how much the trial is because it varies a lot. I've paid $0 up to $125 just for the trial. Good luck!!
