My sister and I have been discussing how we are going to get the name and date onto the petal cones for some time now. This is the best we have come up with so far: 1. Use clear lables and print the name and date on them and then stick on the cones 2. Handwrite the name and date with a fancy gold/silver pen 3. We are also going to play around with the paper in the printer to see if we can come up with something.
You can also buy them pre-made, but they are pretty expensive for a little paper cone that people are going to through out. Let me know if you come up with any better ideas!

Re: make your own petal cones
I was thinking of the label idea attaching it in the corner of a aplain white paper and then making copies onto the papar that I am planing on using, my only problem is what size paper do you use, round square a normal 8/12 by 11 sheet. Any ideas on that.

Re: make your own petal cones
OK I'm curious-- cause I want to do this too! so I'm sitting here at my desk at work making one!!
here it goes.... Paper should be 6' X 41/2. Roll it into a cone, and cut off the excess. That should be the perfect size! Top right hand corner of the paper is where the label/names would go.
Hope this helps!

Re: make your own petal cones
I haven't gotten that far in the process yet, but I just tried it out on an 8 1/2 x 11 and it is way too long. Then, I tried a piece of paper from a Steno Notebook and it looked like a pretty good size! It is 6' x 9'. If anyone came into my office right now and saw me not only screwing around on the internet but also rolling little cones at my desk, I would be so fired!!
The 6 x 9 paper made a cone about 8-9' high and an opening on top of about 2 1/2 inches, which looks about right. You figure that each person only needs a small handful of petals, so that seems about right. The next question would be where in the world you find paper that size! I'll probably go to a stationary store and buy some pretty paper...

Re: make your own petal cones
Any party supply store should have paper doilies. I think making a cone from that would be nice. However, I don't see the need for putting names and dates on them, as most cones will go into the trash after people use them. But it does add a nice touch.

Re: make your own petal cones
I found this on Martha Stewarts page might be easier to do, instead of the names, i think I will do it as is in the icture and add a nice ribbon and maybe a flower or something
what about having your names and date on a label and use that label on the outside to keep the cone closed?

Re: make your own petal cones
I saw in Martha's latest mag where they made them out of a doiley (spelling?) - you know the lacey paper thing - maybe you can run them through a computer before rolling them up....

Re: make your own petal cones
I like the idea of having the cones taped with the bride and groom's name so the cone stays together - good idea!!
As for running doilies through computer first to get names on them....not so much a good idea...the way the 'lace' is on them they may end up jamming the printer!
Labels - man if I was allowed to have stuff thrown at the church (we're not ) I would totally do that. Love the idea
