I had decided to do my own makeup a while ago, and now I am suddenly filling up with doubts as I page through how-to books and magazines. This stuff is complicated. Well, for me- I don't wear makeup at all on a regular basis, which I'm realizing makes me a very strange woman, so I suddenly feel like a strange alien creature every time I step into Sephora. I think I can get the foundation part down (I decided on Bare Minerals) but the eye makeup procedure is complicated...
So I'm contacting makeup artists again to see if they still have my date. But the thing is, my hair stylist, Khoulouds, requires 3 people to book for makeup, and my bridesmaids are most likely not going to be up for that at all. Anyone know of a makeup artist that will be willing to do JUST my makeup on location? I can't really travel to a salon since I'm doing hair at 6:30am for an 11:30am ceremony.
This is stressful. OK, off to Sephora again to act like a baffled child!

Re: Makeup??
Do you have any friends that are talented with makeup? Maybe they can be there just to help you out with eye makeup.

Re: Makeup??
Sometimes local salons can have a person come to your house to do it. Also, have you asked whoever is doing your hair for make-up recommendations?

What if you got your mom and FMIL to do make up too?

Re: Makeup??
my makeup artist came to me and just did me on my wedding day. Her trials were free. Laura D'Angelo from the Bobbi Brown counter at Bloomingdales in Roosevelt Field. She is very nice and did a great job! If you are not used to doing your own makeup Isuggest hiring someone to do it, or going to a makeup class and learning how to do it. This way you wont be so nervous the day of and they can show you how to do it so it looks right in pictures.

This sounds great- do you have any contact info you could FM me? was she reasonable cost wise?
Thanks for the advice- I was planning on learning how to do it because I felt it was about time I learn, but I'm wondering if it is still worth risking it. Sephora consultants are great with tips, but I still feel nervous afterwards about how I'll be able to do it at dawn (I have an 11:30am ceremony) while I'm suffering from butterflies and probably will be shaking and really nervous as is.

The problem is that everyone involved (that doesn't include my mother, who isn't a major part of my life at all, but does include his mother), are not very well off and/or very good at doing their own makeup. I can't find it in me to force them to have makeup done if they aren't financially able to or prefer to do their own. And I don't have the finances myself to chip in. I am only caving in to get a makeup artist myself because I'm realizing how incapable I am of doing my own makeup.
I do have friends who are good at makeup, but they live far away and can't at the moment secure whether they can even come to the wedding (everyone in my wedding is OOT- long story. Basically, I'm a student at Columbia right now so I'm far from home, and my close friends in this neck of woods aren't from around here.)
So my best bet at the moment is to find someone who will do just my makeup. But that is proving to be pretty difficult.

Re: Makeup??
you definitely dont need to take the risk of doing your own makeup the day of your wedding... no matter how good you are! If you need a suggestion for makeup I absolutely love my girl! 'Makeup By Marisa' ...let me know if youd like any contact info, she doesnt have any minimum requirements so I'm sure she would do just the bride. good luck!!

Re: Makeup??
I do makeup as a side thing. If you'd like, I can give you some application pointers based on your eye-shape. FM me and we can exchange numbers - I'd even be willing to meet up with you if you lived nearby! Don't stress - it's not rocket science, despite what people make you think or feel! You CAN DO IT!!!!!!
