I'm having my engagement shoot on Monday. I really never wear makeup, so I really want a very subtle, natural look. I was thinking of just going to a department store at the mall and getting my makeup done at one of the counters. I feel like if I buy some of their products, it will still be cheaper or around the same amount of money as paying someone at a salon, and this way I'll walk out with some actual products.
Which counter would you recommend for very natural looking makeup and has anyone else done this for their e-shoot? (Is this a bad idea?)

Sounds like a good budget-conscious idea to me!

Makeup counter at the mall
I used MAC for my e-pics. The makeup artist was great and listed to what I wanted (a more natural look). You have to buy $50 worth of products. I actually ended up having to return on of the things I bought so when all was said and done, I ended up spending around $25! HTH

1. Do you have to call ahead of time and ask for this, or did you just go in and ask? 2. Did you go to the Roosevelt Field Mall one? 3. Did you get lashes too or no?
Sorry for all of the questions, but I want to do this in 2 weeks for my E-shoot :)

You can try Sephora! I think you need to buy some products.

No problem!
1. Yes, call ahead to make an appointment. I called about a week in advance, but you can call earlier. My recommendation is to make the appointment a few hours earlier than your e-pics. Even though you make an appointment, the make-up artists still have to attend to customers while they're doing your makeup, so they'll stop in the middle and grab a product for a customer and come back. I went on a busy day. Luckily my photographer called me and asked to push the e-pics back by a half hour, otherwise I probably would have been late.
2. Yep, Roosevelt Field mall, on the 2nd floor. I wish could remember my makeup artist's name. If you like the make up, a lot of the consultants also freelance and do wedding makeup, so you can consider this a trial.
3. I didn't get lashes done. I have pretty long eyelashes. (The makeup artist told me I have 'Snufalopogus lashes'. I always appreciate a Sesame Street reference lol). I believe they can do eyelashes though, but I'm not sure about the additional price. It can't hurt to ask when you call for the appointment.
