I have been receiving conflicting information from 'the pros' and wanted to know what you girls think and/or have been told by your makeup professionals...
Does shine and shimmer (whether it be eye shadow, lip gloss, whatever) take away from and/or screw up photographs? I was under the impression that matte was best for photos, but have recently heard otherwise...
Thoughts?

Re: Makeup Poll: Shiny vs. Matte
You definitley want shiny lips. matte lips does not look good in photos. You do not want a shiny face though. That makes you look sweaty.

Matte, you need to have perfect skin to wear shimmer also it enhances all the curves of your face.

I agree, but if you want a little sparkle, like Mac moondust, it does not show in the pics.....

Re: Makeup Poll: Shiny vs. Matte
i say combine the two. but modify! have a matte complexion, but maybe highlight the tops of your cheekbones with shimmer. highlight your brow bones with shimmer. and have lips look moist...the shimmer in those locations will look fantastic in pictures. shiny is a no b/c you will look oily. but matte in total will look old. however, matte skin with shimmer will look elegant and can make you look amazing in photos!

My photographer gave me the low down last night...shimmers and sparkles are a no-no...they reflect the flash and make things stand out more than they should....she also said less is more....I'm not a make up person and plan on looking natural but still 'made up'

this was the impression i was originally under, but then again i sometimes like the lip gloss look. do fashion photographers totally alter pictures so that 'glossiness/shimmer' on eyes and lips are completely manufactured? if this is the case then i need to stick with matte...
hence the confusion

Re: Makeup Poll: Shiny vs. Matte
I say skip the shine on the eyes and face, but do shine on the lips. I like a little shiny glow on the face but am afraid it will photograph to look greasy.

Re: Makeup Poll: Shiny vs. Matte
My photgrapher said Matte ONLY!! Shiny makes you look greasy and DO NOT apply mosturizer underneath your make-up, that will make you look greasy as well.
As far as lip gloss... I was told Matte lipstick ONLY!! - the gloss will give you white spots on your lips from the flash photography.

Re: Makeup Poll: Shiny vs. Matte
This is a good question! For my cousin's wedding last year she only wore matte with a subtle gloss on her lips. Her pictures came out amazing. I am definitely a shimmer/shiny person though (I sometimes wear pink shimmer eyeshadow - enough said!)! There must be a way to do it that won't be overkill. The Mac Moonlight shimmer applied lightly sounds good...

All I keep thinking is that Toxic video by Brittany Spears in her little sparkle costume and her make-up is all glittery and gorgeous. I know I will NEVER look like Brittany no matter what make-up I am wearing but still her shimmery make-up is to die for!

Re: Makeup Poll: Shiny vs. Matte
I wore a sparkly bronzer as a BM in a freind's wedding & I feel it made me look too shiny in pictures, and actually paler, b/c of the the flash being reflected.
I'm not sure about lip gloss though. I'd said, glossy, but not sparkly, but that's pure speculation.

Re: Makeup Poll: Shiny vs. Matte
My cousin & best friend both got married last year and both had matte face makeup (not cakey, just no major shine), but glossy lips....the lip color was a natural color though so it came out beautiful in pictures! Moist, shiny-ish lips (not over-glossy) look very natural in person as well as in pics. I think it's whatever goes better with your face, but after seeing their pics with the gloss on, I personally will definitely go with that. I think that everything in moderation works well.
