Making Meatballs in the crockpot question

I am going to make Chicken Cacciatorre in the crock pot and I want to add turkey meatballs to the dish. My mom used to make it this way. I was wondering, I know I need to bake the meatballs before I put them in the crock pot, How long do I need to bake them for? And on what temp should I put the oven?

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Making Meatballs in the crockpot question

dumb question here...but don't they cook in the crockpot?

eta: i just thought about this; I guess you want to brown them before you put them in the crockpot..in that case, set the oven on 350 degrees, and back them for about 1/2 hour, depending on the size of the meatballs.. my only concern is that because you will be adding them to the crockpot, wouldn't they 'fall apart' from cooking them so long.. ? my meats always come out like butter when cooked in the crockpot.

It doesnt matter really if they fall apart in the crock pot I guess. I guess I will bake them for about 20 minutes.

Guess I'm responding a little late since you've already cooked them! But I just got done making turkey meatballs myself so I guess I could post this for someone else who wants to know. The way I did it is by coating them with flour, browned them in a skillet with a little oil, and then baked for 20 minutes at 350. They came out so yummy!

Re: Making Meatballs in the crockpot question

my step mom always makes her meatballs by frying in a bit of olive oil so they retain their shape in her sauce.

Baking about 20-30 minutes sounds about right

ETA I made chicken caccitore last week in the crockpot and it was FABULOUS! Tons of leftovers

Re: Making Meatballs in the crockpot question

Well I put the turkey balls in the oven for 20 minutes at 350 degrees, and then put all the veggies, chicken, turkey balls and everything else in the crockpot.

After 5 hours of cooking, I have to say that it was so yummy. Danielle enjoyed it too. The chicken was like butter. The sauce was so tasty too.

We made rice with it, and we have so much left over for tomorrow nights dinner.

Now I need to find a good pork chop recipe.
