So we're actively going to start pusuing our plans to move back to NY. I think I'll be working with my dad when we move - I don't really want to back into the corporate world, especially with babies on the horizon, but we're starting to look for jobs for AL.
Any leads for a Product Designer / Mech Engineer (he has masters from Stanford in both of the above). He's been working designing medical devices but is open to new industries. (worked at Estee Lauder before we moved). CAD, Solidworks pro, project/product management, current title is senior R&D engineer.
Rather not commute to NYC so we're looking into LI companies for now. I know there are tons of companies out there we don't know about. All info is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: making the move east - job resources
Sending you FM re: position opps, but wanted to ask - how soon are you planning to move? As soon as he finds a new job? I thought that since you found a job there you'd be in CA a few more years?

Re: making the move east - job resources
a few more years!
While I love my job, its not enough to keep me here much longer. Its fun, but I've been ready to move for a few years. We've just been waiting for Al's job (the product he was working on is now in human trials so his part is pretty much done). I'm tired of living in limbo...
We're ready and willing to go as soon as we have some income lined up. But we realistically figure that may take awhile.
We're month to month on our lease, so we can go at any time - by giving 30 days notice.
Thanks for the FM - going to check it out now.

Lisa, I am so excited for you!
FM me if you have any questions about the logistics of the whole move (although I know you're already too familiar).
I don't know of any openings, but I peruse the job listings on a very frequent basis, so I will keep Al in mind and give you a shout, should anything come up.
YAY for us LIW ladies to finally get you back on the East coast!!

I'm excited too, but I'm trying not to get too crazy since I know it may be awhile still. But at least things are moving in the right direction.

Good luck with everything! I'll be moving back to LI next fall from CA. I can't wait to move. Its been 2 years now, and although it's nice here, its just not home. I'm definitely a NY'er and thats where we belong!!! I hope everything goes well.

Now you can come to a GTG. I am sure you are anxious to come home.
NO LISA!!! you can't leave we were going to come up for kite surfing!!! I hope you are there for a little longer so that we can come to SF and hang out...
btw I have no idea what Al's degrees are, but if its involved in IT, John could probably give him some names...

Re: making the move east - job resources
plenty of time for Kite surfing, but the season ends around September/Oct - figure that into your trip plans.
We're just getting the ball rolling on the move - I figure it'll take months before anything happens. Al's in design & engineering, no IT, but thanks!
btw, we went to the King of the Bay Kiteboarding and Wind Surfing Competition. Some of the best in the world were there. It was incredible to watch.
check out some pics (not of us, of the competitors)
