The Maldives are in the Indian Ocean, just south of the tip of India. The islands are beautiful, the beaches and water are perfect. If you do go, you should try and go between December to April as that is their dry season. One thing to keep in mind is that it is a Muslim country and therefore there are some strict limitations on alcohol consumption. If that doesn't concern you, you can't go wrong! Another beautiful group of islands to consider (and where alcohol isn't limited) are the Seychelle Islands. They are also on the Indian Ocean but further south, down by Madagascar. Both destinations are pretty expensive, mainly because they have to import just about everything. Good luck!

I saw them on the travle channel last year as one of the top 5 beaches in the world...

of course FH siad right away lets go there...but he figured we would be on a plane way too long and he hates that...

Also when we looked at flights...they all went through europe and the middle east...I think it may be a hassle...

Can you fly there through New Zealand?

I guess you could but that probably wouldn't make any sense--it would be a long way out of the way. The Maldives are located just below the tip of India. If flying from the states, you would more likely fly through Europe. Or if you go west from LA, you would probably stop in Singapore or somewhere in that area as opposed to flying all the way down to NZ and up again.
