Does anybody know of a good easy way to store these things so I'm not always hunting for the matching tops? I feel like I lose them constantly and then wind up throwing out the container. They also take up lots of space - there must be an easier way!!

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
I love having those containers for leftovers and such, but storing them is my worst nightmare.
When you open the cabinet I keep them in, a landslide comes pouring out!!
I'd also love to see solutions this problem.

I agree, I have the same problem, and would love to hear others solutions... I have mine stored in a lazy susan, and that helps a little.

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
I know this might not be the greatest idea, but I REFUSE to take up cabinet space for these things. I keep them all in a big plastic bag under my sink. On one side I have my cleaning products, and on the other side is my box of garbage bags and my tupperwares. I occassionally throw out the old ones and replace them with new. I get irked when they started getting discolored from sauce.

I'm not the best at this either! I have this huge bowl thing I rarely use and I store all the covers in that and put all the tupperware, take out containers in neat as can be piles by size or shape on the shelf below this bowl.
Good tip with sauce stains - spray the tupperware with oil cooking spray before putting something saucy in the container. It helps lessen/prevent the sauce staining!

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
I've actually managed to almost tame mine. Here's what I do.
1.) Put most of the lids, on edge, in a rectangular container - mine's about 3' high. This makes it easy to find the right lids and keeps them under control. You can also lift out the entire lid box to search if necessary. The exception, I have a few that have deep edges, and I nest those lids under the containers.
2.) I have a small Rubbermaid shelf in the back that holds some of the containers, so the 'stacks' are smaller.
3.) Nest together the similar shapes - large round, with smaller round inside, rectangular and square together.
4.) Get rid of any sizes or shapes you haven't used in the last year! If you're not using it then toss it!!!!
5.) I haven't tried it, but there is a new cleaner that is supposed to get rid of the red sauce residue.
6.) Mine are in a low cabinet which I hate but it's all that's available right now. I'm planning to have an island built for my kitchen, and one of my plans is to have a deep (10-12 inch) drawer built into it, just for my tupperware - easier to access and see if it's in a drawer.

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
I stack mine the way I got them, in size order (inside each other) and the covers on top of each other, also on size order.

mine are in the draw closest to the floor. I keep the lids under the container or in the front of the draw.

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
What great tips!!
Guess I'll be organizing Tupperware today!
As for the use it or toss it rule... I CAN'T!!! The year I got married I had a class mom who was a Tupperware lady, and she gave me every kind of Tupperware you could ever imagine as a wedding gift. I haven't even figured out what most of it is yet!! I hang onto all of it, just knowing that as soon as I chuck something or give it away I'll find it's perfect use!

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
Organizing these things are not easy! I usually put stack the lids on it's side in size order and then stack the containers inside eachother. It's not perfect but it's neat. As for getting out the red sauce.... the plastic booster (i think it's by cascade) works perfectly. You can also use the arm and hammer wash (not baking soda) to get the red sauce and any kind of oil or grease on pans out. It's a miracle worker!!

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
JennRenee - if you're not using it then it's just being wasted, same as if you threw it away.
Instead, bless someone else with it by giving it to charity, or putting it in a garage sale, or giving it to a family member or friend.
If you really can't get rid of it, take all the pieces you're not using, and put them in a box in the basement or somewhere else out of the way. Mark the date on the box. If you haven't used it in a few years you can later get rid of it, but it's not taking up space in your kitchen.
If you have a digital camera take pictures of the pieces before you store them, and tape it on the outside of the box, that way you know what's in there without unpacking it every time you go searching.

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
I keep mine by shapes. The squares all together, largest square top on bottom, then container, than next size top, than container. I do that for each shape and it workd out great. (As long as DH stays out of that closet)

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
Mine all nest together so storage space isn't a problem for me. All the rounds are with the rounds and the lids are with it too.

Re: Managing tupperware/rubbermaid containers
We resently remodeled or little kitchen, and when I unpacked, I put the tupperware in an upper cabinet. It makes such a difference. They are way more organized than before, since I'm not standing on my head looking for one.
Tupperware multiplies too! When I bring something to someones house, I sometimes tell them to keep the containers when I need to weed them out.
