Manicure question - when and what?

Manicure question - when and what?

Okay, I never wear nail polish because I can't go 5 minutes w/o it chipping off, and my nails aren't the prettiest either. They can get to a decent length, but their shape isn't fantastic.

I was planning on having Jennifer from Fairytale Makeovers bring someone to do them the morning of my wedding. Though I'm wondering if that's too much for that morning.

But if I do them the day before they will surely chip, and I won't want that at all.

I hear about tips, and I'm not exactly sure what they are. I mean, I get the general picture, but would that stop my nail polish from chipping off if I get it done the day before? And if I have never had them, am I in for a treat? Should I get it done this w/e instead, and touch up the day before? Wedding in 2.5 weeks, BTW.

And will tips ruin my real nails underneath?

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know what to do!

Try silk wraps (or silk wraps with extensions if your nails are short). I get mine done every 2 weeks and the nailpolish never chips. I don't like tips (which are artificial nails), I'm a big fan of silk wraps though.

Thanks! Do you have an idea of how much it might cost? I know prices are different all over but a general idea... $20? $1000?

I am not a nail person either. I get weekly manicures, but I like to keep them short. I just got a regular french manicure for my wedding. I felt like tips just weren't me. I got my manicure the day before my wedding and they didn't chip.

The first time you get them put on, they cost around $50.00 (give or take) and then it's between $16-$30 every two weeks after that for fill ins and gel manicures.

I basically have the ugliest nails you'll have ever seen..and lately I have been biting them..nail polish always comes off..I just dont really wear it much..but for my sisters wedding, I had a french manicure the day before and it lasted beautifully..it was so great..I will repeat all of that and do the same thing for my wedding..Ill go the day before and have them do a french again.

Silk or linen wraps will do the least damage. Usually the damage is not from the product, it is from the technician over-filing your natural nail underneath. I say find a good nail tech & go from there. BTW... the polish does hold better on wraps!

ETA:

No matter what type of nail (natural or wrap) you polish, if you use the UV lamp top coat, it will prevent chipping.... just in case you decide to go au natural

I would do nails the day before the wedding, just one less thing to do the day of.

I wouldn't do your nails the day of the wedding. They can smudge and if you're not use to nails (tips) having them done that morning will drive you crazy. Go a day or two before. I have my own nails (don't like tips), if you have a month or so you can start treating your nails now (apply a nail hardener each day) than all you'll need is a great manicure. It's better for your nails, looks better (IMO) and you'll save money on having to get tips.

i'd do them the day before at least. for some reason when a professional does them they don't chip right away. so you should have no problems. as far as tips, wraps etc i don't do any b/c it's too expensive to keep up and your nails are just worse when you get them off.

I had permanent french tips put on the day before the wedding. I thought this was the best because they wouldn't chip and they would last my whole 2 week honeymoon vacation.

Personally I hate tips but for this occasion I splurged. i took them off as soon as I returned.

Also, I would go the day before your wedding. It was nice and relaxing to do before the big day.

Wraps and a french the DAY BEFORE or even TWO days before so you can relax! Don't wait for that morning!

Ok, so I get the point, I was crazy for thinking I could do this the morning of... LOL!

Anyone have any good suggestions for a place in the Sayville, Bayport, Oakdale area?

THANKS for all of your advice!

Re: Manicure question - when and what?

I had a French manicure two days before the wedding. I got a pedicure and waxing at the same time. I enjoyed being pampered for the two hours or so I was there. If you are not used to wearing polish, you might wind up hating tips. (I did the one time I got them) I just let my nails grow naturally to a length that does not interfere with stuff like typing and cooking. Regular manicures will help keep your nails from chipping and breaking. (By regular- that meant once every other week for me when I had the money to get manicures!) When I do polish my nails myself, they also chip and look crummy in a day. When I get them done by someone else, they will keep nice for almost a week. A plain French manicure will cost $10 or so depending on where you go. Acrilics or wraps or tips can run $20-$40+ for a complete set. Plus you have to return regularly for fill-ins and polish changes. (just to give you a ballpark figure...I don't get tips or acrylics so I don't know the exact costs)

Re: Manicure question - when and what?

Like you, nail polish does not stay on my nails. I was going to get silk wraps but I didn't want to deal with them at all. I wound up getting a French manicure the day before my wedding. I went to a spa (not a regular nail place), paid more money than I usually do for a manicure, and the polish stayed on for about 5 days before the first sign of chipping. I finally took off the polish 9 days later! If you are willing to spend extra $ for a manicure, then your nails should be fine for your wedding. I agree that you should not have your nails done on your wedding day - you're going to have so much to worry about then without the added stress of possibly chipping your nails.

I have tips but they also use this new nailpolish top coat that has some kind of UV nail harner in it. then u stick ure nails unerneath a uv lamp and they dry and haren. my place is aweome. they also do great pedicure. They work on ure feet for an hour. I hate my toes and would never get a pedicure thats what my best friend says. They are in East Meadow their name is Bella Nails 516-794-4848. Call for an APPT. p.s. I dont think people will be that focused in on ure nails.
