I'm new to LI Weddings I would like to get married in the summer of 2010 in a mansion type atmosphere, or one wedding at a time, I don't want your typical catering hall, or a sweet 16 going on in another room. Any suggestions? I went to a place today, and the BM was so rude? If the BM is so rude before I book, how will I be treated after I book? Plus, I felt like I was being sold a car... 'upgrade this' and get that... Are all BM's like this?

Re: Mansions VS Catering halls
I looked at the following for mansion feel:
Woodlands Glen Cove Mansion De Seversky Center
They were all gorgeous but I just didn't get that 'This is it' feeling.
Then I went to the North Ritz Club and fell in love! It's not a mansion, but it IS one wedding at a time and absolutely gorgeous. FM me if you want more info.

Re: Mansions VS Catering halls
First off let me tell you. Don't let anyone push you around. We had that same problem with alot of the places that we went and they ended up losing our business because they were trying too hard. My second suggestion would be try looking at both a mansion and a catering hall. Even thoough many halls have more than one event going on. you really don't know that other things are going on at the same time. Thats their job to make it that its YOUR day. But my suggestionss would be try the lessings if your looking for a mansion and there is a place out on the island called the harbor club in huntington. I have been there for weddings and they were wonderful. the food was great too. www.harborclubcaterers.com I hope this helps. you should also try bigger places as well they may just work out for you. I was in the same boat you were when i first started looking.. hope this helps

Yes it is true that Bourne and Vanderbilt have their food cooked off premise. I am booked at Bourne Mansion and doing my tasting next month. You are allowed to reserve a date contingent on a tasting if you really wanted to book it.

Two of my cousins actually got married at Oheka Castle and the food really wasn't that great, not sure if they make theirs off premises or not.

Yea as someone else said, this is true, definitely do a tasting before booking.
I would check out DeSeversky and Woodlands, everyone has great things to say.

Definitely check out De Seversky....I am partial because we are booked there! It does not have the catering hall feel AT ALL, and the place is GORGEOUS!!! One wedding at a time too!

Re: Mansions VS Catering halls
The North Ritz Club has one event at a time. We wanted a mansion ,but couldn't afford one. NRC was exactly what we wanted because we refused to have any other event while we were having our event. There are a bunch of venues that do one event at a time that are not mansions.

Re: Mansions VS Catering halls
I am getting married at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington. It is not a mansion but only does one event at a time so it might be worth looking into. North Ritz Club is also very nice and has a mansion like feel

If you want one wedding at a time you can try Sans Souci of Sea Cliff. They do one wedding at a time. It overlooks Hempstead Harbor.
I hear the food is really good.

East Wind is beautiful...try looking there. Also Milleridge Cottage is nice. Metropolitan maybe for a smaller more 'city' feel
