What do you see as the benefits of Catholic Education? Are your schools closing? Will you send your children to Catholic school?

My catholic school in Flushing is not closing. I like catholic school because of the discipline and the smaller classes....plus religious education is included (obviously) and you don't have to send them to a sunday school. I'm not sure if I'd send my child to a catholic school. I'd have to see what they offer where I live...not in Flushing.

I teach in Catholic high school in the Bronx for the past five years and formerly at a Catholic elementary school in Middle Village, Queens...neither one is closing.
I love Catholic school for the values instilled (not saying every child gets the message!), for the discipline, and most importantly, for the 'family atmosphere.' I feel that I have personally known the majority of my students (and I have about 150 a year) throughout the years and the administration and faculty really seem to know each and every student in the school, at least by name, if not by face (we have 800+ students). No one is just a number.
I definitely plan to send my children to Catholic school if we stay in Queens, which we plan to do. The taxes in LI would not afford us the opportunity to pay for education too!

I teach in a Catholic School on Long Island. It's a regional school and last year the second campus closed and combined into ours. We are still having some problems with re-registration and some teachers may be let go although I don't think we'll be closing THIS year. I guess within the next few years its a possibility. As for benefits, I would say the 'family' like feel of the school, being that it is small and everyone seems to know each other. I do not feel the discipline in my school is much better than a public school, nor the education, due to the lack of resources we have compared to public schools. I would not send my child to a Catholic School unless I lived in an awful school district. I think that's part of our problem too, we are surrounded mostly by good districts.

Well, I teach in a Catholic High School in Manhattan and our enrollment is down as well. Public schools in Manhattan are awful. So, I really don't understand why enrollment is down. Tutition is affordable.

I teach third grade in a catholic school. We have a decent enrollment and the school will not be closing any time soon. One major advantage that I see for the students is that the school has a great sense of community since it is part of a parish. It is expensive though...I've been there for four years now and know a lot of the families...some have 4 or 5 children in the school. I have no idea how they can afford it.
