We are using mark as our photographer and Drew as the fine arts photographer. We met with mark yesterday.
My question is has anyone had there wedding photographed by mark and how did you like him. Sometimes he is a little strange

Re: Mark kauffman
You really need to be VERY specific with this studios as to what you want. For example, at a recent wedding, he only took 2 pictures of the wedding party. I couldn't believe it. The artistic shots were beautiful but he 'forgot' to take a formal shot with the bride and her mother. I almost felt that there needed some one to keep him on track. JMO though....

Re: Mark kauffman
I received the contract from Mark Kauffman and I was sure I was going to use them. I agree he has been a little strange and I am worried about using him. We got the least expensive package and he is not very accomodating because of this.
I am calling another photographer today to try and compromise to get the same package.
Any advice?? I love their work, but I want someone that will work with us.

Re: Mark kauffman
I got an inexpensive package (no albums, 2 photogs) but I have found him to be nothing but a pleasure to work with.
Mark made it very clear to me that he spends about 15 minutes on 'formal' shots, or the after-church group pictures. I may need more than that, so I made a list of 'must-have' pictures, for example:
Me and my grandma FH and his brother FH, his brother and his Mom My parents and siblings and me
I will give Mark the list and have my coordinator or my MOH check off that those shots got taken.
I htink if you want formals and you are working with a more photjournalistic type photographer you need to make a list and not assume they will get the shots you want.

i had a similar experience with him so i continued to look elsewhere...
the work of some photographers he has is outstanding, however the sales tactics he uses really turned me off. i understand he needs to be aggressive to get work, but there comes a point when one should really listen to the potential client rather than steering them in a particular direction to benefit one's own pocket

My complaints are similar. We didn't go with the least expensive, but I felt as if I was being misled with certain things (i.e. the components of our package, which photogrpahers we were getting) But we did go with Tony & Kito and we're antsy to see our proofs! The 2 of them were great and it was a pleasure working with them...

Re: Mark kauffman
I had a similar experience with him, but I still decided to use his studio. The main reasons were that the photos are incredible and I won't be using him specifically. My first experience was when my cousin used another one of his photographer (Jodi) for her wedding which I was in and we clicked immediately. She was fun and really put everyone at ease. Then, I saw the proofs and they were amazing! I had recently looked at another friend's proofs from another photographer and was so bored by them, but Jodi's were so good that I just felt the emotion. I know it's cheezy but it's true. Then when I met with Mark I was so disappointed. He was pushy but aloof at the same time and didn't really have the time for us. I talked to my cousin though and she emphasized how that if Mark is not your photographer you don't have that much contact with him anyway. So we went with it and I feel confident that we are not going to regret it even if we don't click with his personality.

I too was attracted by his work which looks really great, but after a couple of phone calls, I found him to be a jerk and his office staff to be unprofessional and irresponsible.
My SIL actually went a step further and met with him in person for her wedding...she and her FH lasted about 10 minutes before they had to walk out.
For those who are working (or have worked) with him, I don't mean to be negative and I'm sure the end result was a beautiful set of photos, but I think there's something wrong with that guy, and while I feel bad for people like that, I couldn't see giving him my business.

I thought his photography was great, but we were also 'turned off' by the somewhat pushy (IMO) sales tactics. You have to feel comfortable with whomever is going to be a part of such a special memorable day.
