Marriage Certificate if you or FH are divorced

We can't find FH's divorce papers!!!

Are we going to have any trouble getting a marriage certificate without it?

what about copies of them if he can get them from his ex?

HELP!!!

You should be able to get them from the state I think. Never rely on his ex to help you out.

u have to have the divorce certificate.

The ex is unorganized, so I'm hoping she knows where they are - she is fine with everything - very amicable and helpful - but how do I access them from the state just in case? AND - how long would that take????

i remember years ago when i needed a passport we had to show my birth certificate and my mom had no idea where it was. we went somewhere in the city and they gave us an official copy w/ a raised seal on it.

i'm sorry that i dont know specifics of which gov't office it was.
but maybe if u call the town clerk's office they can point u in the right direction?

Liza, it shouldn't take too long to get another copy of his divorce papers. Relax!! Just go to your local town hall and they should be able to point you in the right direction. He might have to go to the town/county where their divorce was filed.

He can get a copy of the divorce papers. I suggest requesting two (just in case you need it later).

He can request it to the court (where the papers were filed). Best bet is to go online and call the main number to know what he needs (written request, money order, etc..)

I am doing it myself (from another state). Mine will take 1 to 2 weeks (max). It's in NC.

And yes, he will need the divorce paper.

He definately needs the divorce papers! If he cannot find them, he can probably contact the court where they were filed, or perhaps his attorney has copies.

FH called his ex - she said she'd give him a copy, so I think we are all set...

Make sure you have a 'notorized' copy. Not just a copy
