If I'm getting married Aug. 30, is it ok to go apply for it now? Is it something that we can just walk in and do or do we need to make an appointment? I think you get it on the same day and I know it's good for 60 days after you apply for it. Other than that, I don't know much else about it. Anything you can tell me would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Marriage Licence
I got mine at the Town of Hempstead. No appointment was necessary. You and your FH both must be present. You both need your original birth certificate and photo id such as a driver's license.
Yes, we go it the same day. It took about 10 minutes. We applied for it with about 58 days to go.

Thanks. Did you put your new last name on the application and then after the wedding did you change your last name on everything else that needed to be changed?

They do ask if you will be changing your name and it was noted on the application. They also gave me an envelope with forms from DMV. If you are changing your registration for your car, make sure you bring the car title. I changed everything but my passport. I am not going traveling anytime soon and I am just putting it off. The marriage license arrived within 2 weeks after our wedding.

Marriage Licence
Do you have to bring the title of your car and registration etc. When applying for the marriage license so that the name change gets done at that time or you do all the dumb stuff to changeover after the wedding?

they have nothing to do with dmv - you do that after you get your marriage licence when you change your drivers licence. If you bring your title at the same time you do your licence & reg, you will get a new title issued to you at no cost - the only free thing dmv does - licence & reg cost. you need the offical marrial licence to change everything at dmv & your SS card and both can be done on the same day.
