someone told me that you have to get your marriage licence in the town that you are getting married. Is this true?

Re: marriage licence question
I don't think so, b/c if it is, I'm in trouble...
I went on to the NY Marriage license website and it says a license received in NY may be used anywhere in NYS.

Re: marriage licence question
For NJ, it's the town where either the bride or groom live or if neither are NJ residents, it's in the town where the wedding will be held.

Hey Nicole! Can you or any of the girls here help me verify how this works. Ok so we pick up the License within 60 days before the wedding and have our original birth certificates, passports and ID's. Then we sign it the day of the wedding along with our officiant. Then give the officiant an addressed envelope so he can send it back to the town that issued the license. Then sometime after our wedding we will receive an official Marriage Certificate. Is this correct???

You got it, althought I don't think that I gave the officiant an addressed envelope.
As for the document requirements, check with the town hall you will be applying at. Each one seems to have different requirements.

Pretty much, except we had to sign it when we got it at brookhaven town, but the witnesses signed it at the rehearsal. I suppose in your case since you're getting married at the hall it would be right after the ceremony (or before, not sure). Then the officiant takes care of it--when you get the license it will come with an addressed envelope. They mail it in, and you get your certificate in the mail to whatever address you specify. Ours was here when we got back from the HM
